Smartphones in India 2013
Phones that come with the most advanced computing ability and connectivity are smartphones. These are based on mobile computing platforms. It easily adds GSM mobile phones and handheld computers together. Also to be known as personal digital assistant (PDA) or personal information manager (PIM) phones, smartphones have operating systems, local data storage, Internet access, built-in cameras, scheduling and contact managers, e-mail/push mail functions, gets more robust UI. In short, a smartphone gets all the features that make it “smarter” than any other feature phone. It can be viewed as a miniature full-fledged computer. The functionality of smartphones is what makes it a hit. Smartphone was born in 1992 by IBM. The first one was called IBM Simon, which came with facilities of a pager, fax machine, and a PDA, along with a few entertainment and productivity features in it, without any physical buttons but was more of a touchscreen. It was released for the public in 1993.

With the gaining popularity of smartphones, many companies are manufacturing smartphones in India now. A few to mention are Samsung, Nokia, LG, Micromax, Motorola, HTC, Apple, BlackBerry.
The lowest priced smartphone available in India is BlackBerry 8830 World Edition at Rs.2,789 while the most popular smartphone is Samsung Galaxy S4 priced at Rs. 37,699. Currently, among the most used smartphones in India include Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S3, Apple iphone 5, Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 520 among which the Apple's iPhone is the most celebrated smartphone of the generation.
