Sony Ericsson txt pro Review
Love to text? Then Sony Ericsson Txt Pro is made for you. Sony Ericsson Mobiles is known for developing devices, which are A-class in style and are loaded with features that are user friendly. Sony Ericsson Txt Pro is a perfect example of style and features. This Smartphone is basically a slider phone that comprise of a full QWERTY keyboard. The keypad is soft and has ideal spaces between each key.
Overall Review
Sony Ericsson txt pro is a feature phone that sports a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard, which is one of its most notable features. With dimensions of 93 x 52 x 18 mm and a weight of 100g, the phone is pretty compact albeit with a wide waistline. The txt pro features a 3-inch scratch-resistant capacitive touch screen display that offers a screen resolution of just 240 x 400 pixels. Although the display offers medium responsiveness, tapping and flicking is not very smooth. This may be a result of a sloppy interface and slow processor. Moreover, the screen quickly attracts plenty of smudges, fingerprints thus requiring high maintenance. The Sony Ericsson txt pro features a 3.15-megapixel camera that can also record QVGA video. Apart from that, you get 64MB of RAM and 100MB of internal memory which you expand upto 32GB. The txt pro is mainly aimed at the social-networking population, comprising of mainly youngsters. Its 4-row physical keyboard is very convenient to type in and Wi-Fi connectivity and the dedicated Friends application, which lets you share updates on Facebook and Twitter, ensures that you stay connected to your social networks.
User Interface and UI functionality
To be fair to this phone, you shouldn’t expect anything close to an Android-like experience in the user interface of Sony Ericsson Txt Pro. But as a feature phone, it manages to just about keep things working as far as user interface functionality is concerned. The interface is not very responsive and a certain degree of sluggishness is easily observed during taps and touches. The txt pro features a four-cornered home screen. The 4 different corners of the screen each contain one icon- keypad, messaging, browser and of course, phone book. You can also add 5 of your frequently used contacts to the home screen for instant access. The txt pro offers a wide variety of messaging and contacts applications. If you prefer a physical QWERTY keypad, you can hammer away at breakneck speed on the slide-out full QWERTY keypad. However, if you want to experience typing on-screen, you will have to make it so with a virtual T9 on-screen keyboard since there is no virtual counterpart of the full QWERTY keypad.
Multimedia features
The Txt Pro isn’t exactly what you’d call a multimedia phone, but it still manages to do a decent job of handling the user’s multimedia needs. You get a standard music player which lets you organize your playlist by songs, albums or artists. The music player also offers an equalizer. In addition to the music player, you also get FM radio. A 3.5mm universal audio jack lets you play music on almost any device. The video player lets you play MP4 videos, but the small 3-inch screen and the low display resolution of 240 x 400 won’t let you watch videos for an extended period of time. Wi-Fi connectivity ensures that you get fast access to the internet, which is important since this phone is mainly aimed at social-networking users. The Txt Pro comes preloaded with Facebook, Twitter and GTalk apps. However, you don’t get 3G connectivity which is a major disappointment. You get a fixed focus 3.15MP camera which however does not have a flash, so you can’t take pictures in poor lighting conditions. Otherwise, the images taken are rich and crisp. Although you get video recording facility, it is advisable not to expect too much from it in terms of quality.
Pictures and Video quality
Pictures are good only when taken in good lighting conditions. However, the resolution is very low, as the images look good only when viewed in the phone itself. On a bigger screen like that of a computer, the images look below par. Video quality too is only average with QVGA recording at 320x240 pixels resolution. So if you’re looking to make full use of your phone’s camera, you’re in for a bit of a disappointment.
Internet support
The Sony Ericsson Txt Pro supports GPRS and EDGE in addition to Wi-Fi connectivity. However, there is no 3G support which will come as a major disappointment to many. But what is an event greater disappointment is the stock mobile browser that gives terrible performances. In fact, it struggles to load even medium pages, often subdividing them into multiple subpages, causing an enormous amount of difficulty in browsing. Of course, you can always download and install Opera Mini to smooth things along.
Internal and External Memory
The Sony Ericsson Txt Pro comes with 100MB of internal memory. However, you can always expand it up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card.
Applications and Gaming
Since the txt pro is primarily a social-networking phone, the phone comes pre-loaded with several social-networking applications like Facebook, Twitter and GTalk. You also get a dedicated Friends application, which further enhances the conventional email/contacts options available in the phone. Once you allow the application to access your Facebook and Twitter accounts, you will be able to find your buddies through those networks.
Battery Backup
The battery life offered by the Sony Ericsson txt pro is pretty decent with a 1000mAh standard Li-Ion battery offering 400 hours of standby-time and 5 hours 10 minutes of talk time.
Connectivity Offered
You get some of the basic connectivity features found in any standard feature phone like Bluetooth and FM radio with RDS. However, there is no GPS support and obviously no maps application. But what’s even more surprising is the lack of 3G-support. It is expected that a heavily social-networking handset like this should atleast offer 3G-support.
Compare
The Sony Ericsson Txt Pro can easily be compared with the Samsung Galaxy Y. Although the Galaxy Y is a bit larger in size, it is considerably slimmer as compared to the Txt Pro. On the downside, you don’t get a full QWERTY physical keypad as in the txt pro, but you get 7.2Mbps HSDPA 3G which more than makes up for it.
News Updates
Sony Ericsson had launched the Txt Pro alongside the Mix Walkman back in July 2011. As a handset mainly aimed at the texting addicts and social-networking crowd, the Txt Pro still comes as a disappointment due to its many flaws, that include the lack of 3G support, poor camera, terrible stock browser, etc. The only possible reason you may have to purchase the txt pro is its full QWERTY physical keypad which is its best feature.
