Sony Ericsson txt Review
Sony Ericsson Txt, as the name suggests, is designed for those customers who are textaholic and love chatting all the time. The QWERTY keypad is super smooth and it has a shortcut key that will directly take you to texting. You can put your five best mates on the homescreen so that you can make them a call or send them a message whenever you like. You can see the recent updates of your friends by simply dropping their contact number into the friends application. With a compact size of 106mm x 60mm x 14.5mm and 95 grams of weight you can easily hold the device in your hands. The front of the device is equally divided between the non touch screen and the QWERTY keypad. The screen is 2.55 inch in size with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and 256K of color depth. The pixel density of 157 ppi makes the screen vibrant, rich and sharp. The glass of the display is scratch resistant so you can handle it roughly. The sound system of the device is very good as the in-built loudspeakers are of superb quality. This multimedia handset is very affordable and is available in four vibrant colors. You can send SMS, MMS, IM, push mail, e-mail and can be live on your social networking sites as this handset supports EDGE, GPRS and Wi-Fi networks for connectivity. Sony Ericsson Txt is a compact device that allows you to capture images with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels with its 3.2 megapixels camera. There is no secondary camera so you cannot avail the facility of video chats with family and friends. The device has support for 3.5mm universal headphone jack that allows you to connect external means of sound with the handset. It holds an internal storage capacity of 120MB but you can extend the external memory up to 32GB using the memory card. The default music player performs extremely well and you can also enjoy the music 24 x 7 on FM radio that supports RDS function. Using this feature the device automatically detects the name of the radio station to which you are tuned into. You can also record videos with good pixel size and with clarity. The strongest part of the device is its power packed battery that allows a talk time of up to 3 hours 12 minutes and a standby time of up to 416 hours. You can also enjoy your favorite tracks for a continuous playback of 23 hours without any battery drainage. Sony Ericsson Txt supports a standard Li-Ion 1,000 mAh battery and comes with an in-built HTML browser that makes browsing easy and full of fun.
Overall Review
The wi-fi enabled and yet low priced SONY product has been launched. The new SONY ERICSSON TXT is definitely a budget phone with friend app, GTalk and QWERTY keypad to make connecting with people easier and fun! It is available in black and white for the employees and pink and blue for the students! This Fit-for-all phone also boasts of a 3.2 megapixel camera, music player with track ID recognition system, Bluetooth and network connectivity. With a 2.55 inch scratch resistant TFT screen and weighing only 95 gms, this SONY ERICSSON TXT is very easy to handle and fits in sleekly with dimensions of 106mm X60mm X 14.5mm. It is a youth targeted phone with social networking sites support, gaming and easy and cool messaging interface. Though it lacks a secondary camera, touch sensitivity and GPS it is a feature phone which is classy and above its price standard. Sony Ericsson txt is an entirely different beast to the XPERIA range, as it runs a proprietary operating system. The rise of the Android OS in the past 18-24 months has seen mobile phone manufacturer's move away from these types of operating systems — they were traditionally synonymous with "feature phones," which have now been replaced by smartphones.
User Interface and UI functionality
The SONY ERICSSON TXT has an easy and friendly user interface with easily selected menus and soft touch buttons. With conventional placing and use of buttons, this new sony model comes with the basic functions of alarm clock, calendar, calculator, predictive text input, notes and voice memo. Sony Ericsson Txt due to the plastic construction, looks rather cheap by the appearance of it. It's lightweight, and one can find it quite nice to hold in the hand. The back cover can be a bad headache. Although there's no touchscreen on the display, Sony Ericsson Txt's hardware buttons make it easy to move around the simplistic UI. There are call and end-call buttons, two menu/select buttons and a four-way navigation button below the 2.55-inch QVGA display.
Multimedia features
The SONY ERICSSON TXT supports MIDP 2.1 JAVA interface with gaming option and SNS integration with native Facebook and Twitter clients. It has a MP4 player which supports H.263 and H.264 formats also along with a MP3 player. One of the attractive features is the TrackID music recognition which helps recognizing tracks as they play. Google Mail, Google Talk make connecting with friends and family easier and the Voice memo never lets you miss out on anything. Messaging becomes fast and easy with predictive text input. It plays music via support of 3.5 mm a/v in very good quality.
Pictures and Video quality
With a fixed-focus primary camera and 3.15 mega pixels but without auto-focus, the pictures are of standard quality. Its resolution count is 2048 X 1536 pixels. It also lacks LED Flash, digital zoom, geo-tagging, face and smile detection etc. QVGA videos on continuous mode only can be shot by this camera phone which can easily be played on MP4 of the phone itself. It is not quite a photogenic phone!
Internet support
HTML browser is supported by the SONY ERICSSON TXT. Internet browsing is possible on this phone with Wi-fi connectivity and upto 60 kbps GPRS and 177 kbps EDGE. It has a v2.1 bluetooth with A2DP and EDR which can also be used for connectivity purposes. It supports a microUSB 2.0. It is JAVA enabled and supports voice memo. The SONY ERICSSON TXT is a 2G phone. Sony Ericsson Txt doesn't run an OS like Android, which has a heap of apps that you can install, so we found that you're limited to the apps that are pre-installed on the device: Opera, Facebook, Twitter, Google Talk, Picasa, Orkut, Gmail, YouTube and Yahoo mail.
Internal and External Memory
The Sony Ericsson Txt comes with a minimal of 100MB internal memory which has ot be further extended according to needs. They can easily save contacts, photo calls in phonebook and maintain call records. Expanding the memory is possible upto 32GB with a microSD card. It runs on a meager 62MB RAM.
Applications and Gaming
The TXT being a feature phone lacks GPS but has a few pre installed games to keep the user occupied. It has a stereo FM radio with RDS and keeps the user in touch with SMS, MMS, push mail, Email etc.
Battery Backup
The phone uses a standard Li-on 1000mAH battery. It has a talk time of 3 hour 12 minutes and the music play can extend upto an impressive 23 hours. On the standby mode however, the phone can last upto 416 hours which makes almost 18 days, which is quite impressive to say the least.
Connectivity Offered
Unfortunately Sony Ericsson Txt lack of 3G connectivity will hinder mobile Internet use. Even though the txt does come with Wi-Fi, we can't forgive the omission of 3G — attempting any sort of social networking over a 2G network is likely to be a painful process. For local and global connectivity, the following options are provided in Sony Ericsson Txt, GPRS upto 60 kbps, EDGE upto 177 kbps and Wi-Fi at 802.11 b
Compare
Sony Ericsson Txt is a device which lacks 3G and does not work on Android OS, given that, whn compare the device to the likes of Blackberry Cruve 8520, Samsung Galaxy Y and Sony Ericsson's own Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman, the device is crushed badly. So the functionality of this device can be compared to the Nokia X2-01, Nokia Asha Series, Motorola Brea and Samsung Champ Duos as Sony Ericsson Txt can excel well when compared here.
News Updates
22 July 2011 - The efficient yet sadly named Sony Ericsson Txt feature phone is here!. By "feature phone" what is applied here is that it is not a smartphone, but it still comes with the usual features such as a web browser, email client and music player and FM radio, plus support for social networking applications and a YouTube client. The Sony Ericsson txt doesn't really have any hidden depths. If you are after a simple and inexpensive messaging phone then the txt might be a useful option.
