Samsung Wave 525 Review
Samsung Wave525 S5253 is another low cost mobile phone with almost all the features available in a highend phone. Samsung Wave 525 S5253 mobile phone is a sleek designed model, which easily fits into the users' palm and is easy to carry in the pocket also. This is a light weight phone weighing around 100 gms with dimensions of 109.5 mm x 55 mm x 11.7 mm . It has touch screen enabled display with a width of 3.2 inch. The display supports 256 colors and 204 x 400 pixel of resolution which is capable of giving high clarity. Samsung Wave 525 S5253 comes with 3.2 megapixel camera, which has a face detection and smile detection option with geo-tagging facility.
Overall Review
Samsung Wave 525, a decent and low price innovation unveiled by Samsung is a sensation among mobile lovers, mainly because it is offering Bada OS with so many built-in functionalities that until recently was only booked for the iOS/Android devices, like image editing and music recognition apps integrated into a single platform. It definitely will prove to be a good starter for those who just got ready to dive into smartphone world. The Samsung Wave 525 doesn't have an award winning design with its plain black box shaped body and a thin rim around the phone. The device is offering 3.2" capacitive touchscreen with 240x400 pixels of resolution and average sunlight visibility. There is a microUSB port and 3.5mm audio jack on top, as well as a lock/power button and a dedicated camera key buttoned on the right side. The back consists of the 3MP camera to click good quality pictures. Samsung is using dotted pattern in the back side, which makes the phone less slippery to handle. This phone can be held comfortably in the hand, and is thin and light at 109.5mm x 55mm x 11.9mm, and 100 g of weight. The Samsung Wave 525 is available in three colors - black, white and pink. Samsung amazed its users with the kind of hardware they embedded into the original Wave (GT S8500) at an affordable price point. The device continues with the same 'Wave' series of phones and is titled as the promising entry level of that line. When taken out from the box, this phone doesn't look bad at all. The bundle contains a 2GB card, kies software disks, microUSB charger, data cable, and a wired stereo head set.
User Interface and UI functionality
Wave 525 supports bada 1.1 with Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 user interface. This device lacks some apps in the menu, one of them being the gallery. It comes with 100MB of memory, which seem enough for the low-end OS. TouchWiz 3.0 features upto 10 home screens and offers buttons for Keypad dialer, Contacts, and Messages and many more for providing quick access. Each of these home screens or virtual desktops can include widgets. Touching the little widgets button will showcase the widgets menu from which you can drag and drop widgets on the home screens. Widgets offer a calendar, feeds and updates widget that displays content from social networking services such as Facebook, Twitter and orkut.
Multimedia features
This smartphone possesses all the basic functionalities such as text body search, text messaging and email applications that a modern smartphone offers. Typing on the virtual keyboard feels like touching the screen with a feather, and the keys positions are perfectly chosen in both landscape and portrait modes. There is this usual SMS/MMS option present, but you can also switch to multiple webmail accounts (such as Ymail!, Hotmail and Googlemail without facing any problem), Exchange email and IM too, which all together enhances your experience of using the amazing Samsung Wave. Facebook and Twitter come installed withing this handset. You now can easily comment on people's statuses right from the contact book. Interact with your friends and family by messages and tweets.
Pictures and Video quality
The 3MP camera offered by Samsung Wave 525 has the typical TouchWiz 3.0 camera interface, which is touch sensitive and provides an easy usage with a lot of functionalities. The picture quality turns out to be noticing and impressive with a decent amount of detail and a balanced color representation, but exposure compensation is a bit challenging for bright objects. Indoor shoots in low light can be a bit noisy. The phone records QVGA video at 15fps, which is average, though. Gallery app icon in the main menu can be accessed through the camera interface, and provides photo editing options that are inbuilt, through which you can easily alter your images. Music player is upto the mark with a lot of track sorting options and mock 5.1 channel SRS sound in headset mode. The loudspeaker produces decent volume and is a treat to the ears when listening to tunes. Video playing is not that much satisfactory with Samsung’s codec support, as it lacks DivX/Xvid capabilities, and only plays videos which can fit to the screen’s resolution.
Internet support
This handset includes Dolphin 2.0 browser which performs good but lacks proper Flash support. Samsung Wave 525 supports EDGE connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0 and FM radio. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity can be easily switched on and off with the help of the switches given in the notification bar. It also supports Flash video. Search is built right into the Samsung Wave. Now you can easily search your content with the help of a 'double tap' search screen available along with Google widget . Enjoy surfing internet with Google, Twitter and Bing which is remarkable.
Internal and External Memory
Wave 525 is offering 100MB user memory which may be expanded to 16GB using the microSD card. Memory is hardly a concern now, as you can store a large collection of songs, videos, E-Books and all other data of your choice. So store as much as you want but don't forget to delete unused applications as it will save the memory.
Applications and Gaming
Samsung talked a lot about apps when Bada OS was unveiled, and it seems like they have worked hard in providing suitable applications. These Applications can be coded in Flash, C++ or Web Runtime, as well as in Java offering much freedom to users to download and utilise applications of their choice. The App Store holds an amazing collection of cool applications, such as, from a free TV remote one can handle Samsung's display! This could be a real treat if it's present in all Samsung mobile users in the future. A few exciting games, such as Assassin’s Creed II and some applications are given free for the latest bada phones. So now one can extend his/her collection of freewares, games and other stuffs .
Battery Backup
Samsung Wave 525 is powered with a 1200mAh battery, which is not hitting the average line. Its talk time is 15hrs, while the standby is targetted to be up to 900hrs. It may last upto two days if used along with Wi-Fi. But you need to charge it daily if you want to make it ready for heavy usage.
Connectivity Offered
This phone doesn't support 3G and this is where it falls. But you can switch to Wifi and it delivers a great speed. Also it has Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, so transferring files though Bluetooth is fast and quick. The data cable is also given with this handset. For listening to music, you can plug in a 3.5mm audio jack. The headset provided with thid device is not that bad but you can use any 3.5mm jack.
Compare
If you are seeking for Android OS then you can go for Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, which supports Android 2.1 and 3G speeds. Powered by a 1200mAH Lithium polymer battery, it ensures 6 hours of talk time which is certainly less than Wave 525. It comes fitted with 3 inches of TFT capacitive touchscreen and offers a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. Features and functions are almost same, the only main difference is the operating system which can divide the opinions.
News Updates
Samsung introduced the low price phones to feature its own Bada OS, naming them Samsung Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro. Afterwards the company unveiled the mid range - Samsung Wave 723. Samsung Wave II also supports Bada OS. To avoid naming duplicacy, the low price Samsung mobiles featuring Bada OS are now all set to hit the market, but with different names consisting numbers strictly. Samsung Wave 2 is now named as Samsung Wave 525 and Samsung Wave 2 Pro, which offers a QWERTY keyboard can now be called as Samsung Wave 533. Samsung wave is offering Bada OS at this price, so it will prove to be a great buy.
