Samsung Omnia W Review
Feel the unmatched experience with Samsung Omnia W. If you want to explore life with a new meaning, then Samsung Omnia W is made just for you. Gear up for a vivid immersive experience with a 3.7 inches super AMOLED display. Connect yourself globally with 3G video calling and get wrapped up in the world of apps with Samsung Omnia W, the sleek designed device. Connect with your buddies as you never did before. How? Its quite simple, as only this Windows gadget possess a 5 megapixel camera, the user can now get linked with buddies wherever they are. If the user clicks photos in dark, the camera will somehow manage to balance the color levels perfectly.
Get social with the latest Samsung Omnia W. The user can effortlessly arrange applications as well as status updates with Live tiles. Grab those new and fresh information on the handset. The device runs on a 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor that makes running of the apps faster. Talking about the internet access, the Samsung Omnia W runs fast while surfing. Whereas, the device has all connectivity features, a handset of its group should have like Wi-Fi, 14.4 Mbps HSDPA, Bluetooth, A-GPS, and FM Radio with RDS.
To make it clear, there is no HDMI port installed for displaying pictures and videos directly on a large screen. A huge frustration is that the mobile phone doesn't have mass storage mode. The GPS feature is present in the phone. The Samsung Omnia W has the capability of recording 720p HD videos at 30 frames per second. While the multimedia option has a music player with the help of which the user can subscribe to and download podcasts, and can form his/her own playlists.
The Samsung Omnia W may not possess a secondary microphone for active noise cancellation, still its in-call audio quality is well beyond the average. Voices sound loud and different through the earpiece without being hazy even at the maximum volume setting. On the other hand what lies in the pipeline is that the users voice will sound loud enough. Samsung Omnia W 1500 mAh battery gives out good battery back up.
Well to sum up, after gathering information about the handset, it can be assumed that this is one affordable smartphone, above all when its price is discussed. And its overall performance is unblemished, regardless of being a mid-range mobile phone. So guys if you all are searching out for a well-designed and balanced device, the Samsung Omnia W should be the trump card, yet below are a few choices that the customer might also want to peep at.
Overall Review
The mid-range smartphone, Samsung Omnia W is an overall decent device. Though it does not claim to deliver the best in every aspect but it definitely delivers an overall good user experience and flawless performance. The call quality on Samsung Omnia W is pretty good despite the absence of secondary microphone for active noise cancellation. It has smooth UI functionality and the processor supports hassle free browsing, speedier scrolling through the menu and gives many more features to keep the users occupied. Then, there are dual cameras and 3G support for video calling. It is indeed admirable that all these privileges come together with this Samsung Omnia W despite the absence of a dual-core processor, much of RAM support, in expandable memory and affordable price.
User Interface and UI functionality
Samsung Omnia W is a compact and slim Windows-based smartphone. Its design and user interface together makes using it pretty easy and comfortable. It’s just 10.9 mm thick and has tapered edges. It just weighs about 115 grams. All this makes it very comfortable to hold and use even with one hand.
Samsung Omnia W sports a decently large Super AMOLED touch display of 3.7 inches but the PenTiles matrix slightly dulls down the sharpness of the display. Yet, the picture quality and text observed on the phone is fairly sharp and clear. Besides, due to AMOLED technology, display sports good viewing angles and high contrast ratio. As per the standards of all Windows phone, Samsung Omnia W has three navigational keys below the display for Home, Menu, and Back. There are also dedicated keys for camera, volume, etc.
Now coming on to its UI, we find that due to superior 1.4 GHz processor, every touch of the button, tile and scrolling through the menu is damn smooth. Then, there’s also the Windows Mango operating software that establishes hassle free social networking, apps usage, and web surfing on Samsung Omnia W. There’s just one flaw with the device while switching between apps and that too only with third party apps, and that is they slowly go back and forth between switching.
The online QWERTY keypad is also nice and effective and works flawlessly in both portrait and landscape modes.
Multimedia features
We admire that Samsung Omnia W comes with the Zune interface and the Music+Videos hub. Users can freely use and download podcasts also on the phone. There’s also scope of directly using the Smart DJ song recommendation function on Samsung Omnia W. The limited memory space of the phone does hinder user’s desires to make huge music collection on the Samsung Omnia W. Sadly just about 6.67 GB of user-available storage is there in the phone. There’s also a FM radio with RDS and dual cameras in the Samsung Omnia W.
Pictures and Video quality
The 5 megapixels shooter located on the rear of the Samsung Omnia W has a LED flash and potential to shoot 720p HD videos.
As far as the quality of clicked images is concerned, we find that colors of pictures are pretty accurate and so is the detailing. There’s not much digital noise or disturbance either. But when moving objects are captured, there is some kind of a blurring. Also, the outdoor shots are just average.
The video quality is pretty much decent too particularly because the LED flash is accompanied with the camera. If the flash is turned off, colors get cold. There’s also trouble while shooting indoors. Yet, there are many preset scene modes and effects that users can apply and then on the super AMOLED screen, these videos look pretty fascinating. On the downside, DivX or Xvid video formats are not supported.
The 720p HD videos are shotat 30 frames per second.
Internet support
Samsung Omnia W has spotlessly smooth Internet Explorer 9 that comes handy with the all new Windows Mango OS of the phone. Also due the faster processor of the device, it runs pretty fast to let users browse Internet at elevated speeds.
Zooming and panning is very smooth, double taps are very convenient and zooms the browser in three consequent stages. There’s automatic text reflow but the sad part is that there’s no Adobe Flash support. When Adobe pulls out from flash and turn to HTML 5, there will no issues as Internet Explorer 9 handles HTML 5 pretty well.
Internal and External Memory
Samsung Omnia W is weak in the memory department. It just has 512 MB RAM and 8 GB internal memory support. This gets particularly frustrating for users who are keen on having lots of multimedia data as in songs, pictures and videos inside their phone.
Applications and Gaming
Samsung Omnia W does not come loaded with many apps but it has some pre-installed productive apps inside. There’s AllShare for streaming media over DLNA, Photo Studio for basic photo editing, RSS reader called RSS Times and Fun Shot App for adding funky stuff to clicked images. The “Now Application” app is most useful of them all and help users get assorted information of weather, news and stocks at one place. It has its own tiles that can be put on the homescreen.
Battery Backup
The 1500 mAh battery of Samsung Omnia W delivers 6.5 hours of talk time and 380 hours in stand-by mode over 3G network connection. This kind of performance is quite good as per smartphone standards.
Connectivity Offered
Samsung Omnia W has a rich set of connectivity features set inside. There’s Wi Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 14.4 mbps HSDPA. The GPS software is Bing Maps which have increased their coverage and automatically switch to satellite mode on zooming.
