Samsung mobiles have proved it once again that they are keen on devising mobile handsets that meets the requirements of all the different kind of buyers. As such, Samsung has come up with Samsung Galaxy Pocket smartphone that falls in the low end smartphone segment. This relatively cheap smartphone features a tiny 2.8-inch screen. It is surprisingly very compact (as suggested by its name) and affordable Android phone that ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This device sporting a QVGA type touch screen, Android version 2.3 Gingerbread OS and TouchWiz user interface runs on a single core processor clocked at just 800 MHz.
The size, affordability and the Android operating platform of the Galaxy Pocket aren’t the only specifications that will surprise buyers. There are some other goodies too. It features a 2 mega-pixel camera, microSD card support and connectivity options like Wi Fi, 3G, GPS and Bluetooth. Samsung Galaxy Pocket is almost half the size of Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and is personified of our earlier statement. The name of the device also apt for what it intends to do but does it deliver in terms of performance? The device for one is powered by Android, but not Ice Cream Sandwich leave alone Jelly Bean. Gingerbread is the name of the game for Samsung Galaxy Pocket although it is be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich as well. The device is powered by the 832MHz processor, which is decent enough to give the device enough speed to carry out its operations.
There is a 4GB internal memory but only 3GB is user available that enables the user to store data. In case the memory is not enough, he or she can expand the memory up to 32GB with the help of the microSD card slot. Standard features like music player, video player and the FM radio player are also available. The quality of the music player is not the best but for what the device intends to offer, it is pretty reasonable. The battery strength is where the device steals the show with a 1,200 mAh standard lithium ion power back up producing a talk time of up to 17 hours along with a standby time of up to 800 hours. The same capacity in 3G decreases with the talk time being up to 5 hours and 40 minutes along with a standby time of up to 500 hours. The camera is 2 megapixels and is certainly not the USP of the device with a this much of strength. All in all, a decent device and worth a buy if your budget is limited.
User Interface and UI functionality
Samsung Galaxy Pocket has a modest 2.8 inch TFT screen that can be interacted with through the capacitive touch screen technology. The screen resolution is not out of this world when compared to some of the Heavyweight Smartphones like HTC one X or even Samsung Galaxy Note 2, with only 240 by 320 pixels to show off along with 256k colors and same is the case with its pixel density of 143ppi. The screen is further powered by the TouchWiz UX UI technology.

Samsung Galaxy Pocket offers a music player, a video player and a radio FM with RDS technology that allows the user to record his or her favourite songs whenever he or she desires to do so. The music player is compatible with the formats MP3, WAV and eAAC+ player whereas the video player is supported by the formats MP4, H.264 and H.263 player. The music can be heard through the loudspeakers or through the earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5mm jack.

The 2 megapixels camera is what the Samsung Galaxy Pocket garners that allows the user to click pictures at a resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels. The user can also shoot videos but at VGA quality.
