Nokia Lumia 900 Review
Following the latest trend of profucing smartphones with Windows 7 operating system, leading mobile manufacturing company, Nokia Mobiles is also coming up with new smartphone that is empowered with Windows 7.5 operating system. Nokia Lumia 900 can be considered as much advanced phone as compared to other Windows 7.5 phone prevailing in market. Equipped with 1.4 GHz processor, Nokia Lumia 900 adorns 4.3 inches Black AMOLED Capacitive touchscreen. As the features and specifications are not yet revealed in detail by Nokia Mobiles it is anticipated to carry the same features as adorned in erstwhile sibling Nokia Lumia 800. However one thing it is quite sure that these features will be much advanced.
Apart from being a Windows phone, it will adorn camera of 8 mega pixel. It supports connectivity with 2G and 3G network, Bluetooth, EDGE, Wi-Fi and micro USB card. Enriching the users with internet surfing it assimilates inbuilt WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML, RSS feeds web browser for connectivity with net and social networking websites which are mostly visited by the youth users. It supports giant battery of 1800 mAh that supports long talk time and stand by time. It is capable of storing unlimited entries in phone address book and also maintains the record of phone calls received, dialed and missed.
As far as assimilation of games is concerned it does not support any collection of inbuilt games but supports games applications that are downloaded by inbuilt internet browser. Multi-media features are enhanced by video and audio files to support necessary applications. Additional multi-media features empowered in Nokia Lumia 900 include MP3 and WAV ringtones, inbuilt loudspeakers supported by 3.5mm audio jack. Besides all these requisite features and specifications Nokia Lumia 900 also performs wide array of various common features including SMS, MMS, Email, Push mail, hands free speakers, and predictive text input.
Additional features integrated in Nokia Lumia 900 that increases its utility include Voice memo/command/dial, SNS integration, Document viewer/editor, Video/photo editor, Nokia ClearBlack display, Multi-touch input method, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, NFC support, Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, Proximity sensor for auto turn-off and Digital compass. Augmented with all these features, it is assumed that Nokia Lumia 900 will undoubtedly play a decisive role in pushing up the sales of Nokia Mobiles. However, the exact features and specifications will be cleared only after it is officially launched in the global market.
Overall Review
There are some flaws and wins in Nokia Lumia 900. However, eventually it all comes down to the preferences and needs of the end-user. Nevertheless, Nokia Lumia 900 is a nice Windows 7.5 Mango operating-system-based smartphone that beautifully showcases evrything over its 4.3 inch OLED screen. It features an 8-megapixels rear camera and has very good memory space and prolonged battery life. The smartphone is also equipped with 4G LTE technology that sets it apart from most of the available smartphones like HTC Titan II and Samsung Galaxy S II.
The design and UI of Nokia Lumia 900 are commendable and it is so because it is different. Unlike Android or Apple OS, the Windows based Metro UI that is being used in Nokia Lumia 900 does not create a faux pass reality. It is natural and original, yet very modern and calssy. The apps of the phone are also uniquely different that have been made exclusively for Lumia devices. Gaming, multimedia and Internet experience over Nokia Lumia 900 is far better than our expectations. The phone will make it to the markets in two funky colors, cyan and black.
User Interface and UI functionality
Nokia Lumia 900 has a unique and novel shape. It is made up of a specialized plastic ( monoblock polycarbonate) that keep the grip and hold over the phone firm. Nokia Lumia 900 is light yet sturdy and despite of being a bit angular at the top and bottom. It’s strong and uses a uni-body casing. Unfortunately, the unibody design also implies that there’s no battery removal or expandable memory.
The Microsoft Metro UI is also a revelation. The modern design of this UI is so well executed that one comes across everything in elegant proportion. The graphics used are simple and logical. The icons are legitimate. One can easily browse through these icons as they respond faster.
Multimedia features
The music player and video player of Nokia Lumia 900 support music formats viz. DRM Playready, MPEG-4 AAC , eAAC, eAAC+, WMA Professional 9 and 10and MPEG-1 audio Layer 3 (MP3). The audio features of Nokia Lumia 900 include FM radio, audio streaming, Bluetooth stereo, Handsfree speakers and uplink noise cancellation.
This Nokia phone supports Nokia Zune Music services which could be directly accessed on it. The camera of the phone is brilliant and we know how well the dual cameras of the phone work to enhance the user experience.
Pictures and Video quality
The Nokia Lumia 900 is no different than any other Nokia phone as all of them have good cameras. The camera of this phone has a Carl Zeiss f/2.2 lens, and there’s an f/2.4 in front-facing camera. This camera allows for high-quality, uncropped images even in low-light conditions. Additionally, the Lumia 900's front-facing camera boasts a large aperture and wide angle lens that would easily capture sharp, bright images and perform high-quality video calling.
Sadly, despite having dual LED flash, the camera of Nokia Lumia 900 is unable to shoot 1080p HD quality videos and one has to feel satisfied with 720p HD quality videos.
Internet support
Nokia Lumia 900 has supporting 2G and 3G networks and also come equipped with the latest 4G LTE technology. This feature of Nokia Lumia 900 makes it a gen-next handset altogether. There’s Microsoft Internet Explorer for faster web browsing.
Internal and External Memory
Nokia Lumia 900 is one of those smartphones that do not come with expandable memory and claim that its internal memory and RAM is sufficient to support the user requirements. It just has 512 MB RAM and comes in single model with 16 GB internal memory version and barely 14.5GB of it is user memory. But along with this, there's SkyDrive cloud storage in Nokia Lumia 900.
Applications and Gaming
Everything about Nokia Lumia 900 could be ignored by those who are in awe of the exclusive apps tailor-made for Lumia devices.
There’s ESPN sports hub pre-loaded on Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone that provides a one-stop sports application for news, videos and scores. There’s also exclusive CNN App that provides the latest news and videos from CNN from around the globe. Then, there's Nokia Drive for free in Nokia Lumia 900 which is there for voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation purpose and the dedicated in-car user interface turns this smartphone into a full-fledged GPS navigation system.
Additionally, there’s the Univision App and the most fascinating fact that will amuse all game lovers is the partnership with EA to bring over 20 of the world's most popular games to the Windows Phones particularly and firstly over Nokia Lumia 900 devices.
Battery Backup
Nokia Lumia 900 does not disappoint us with its restrained battery backup. There’s ample battery life made available via 1830 mAH capacity battery that gives 300 hours of standby time and 7 hours of talk time.
Connectivity Offered
Nokia has engraved a special feature, the Wi-Fi hotspot in Nokia Lumia 900 which will enable your phone to use Internet through your phone making your phone a hub. The Bluetooth v2.1 with EDR and microUSB v2.0 also exist for connectivity purposes.
Compare
Nokia Lumia 900 is a serious threat to Samsung Galaxy S II as the two smartphones have cutting the edge features to woe the buyers.
Both the devices share 4.3-inch Super AMOLED plus capacitive touch screen display made up of Corning Gorilla Glass. They are both very responsive and capable of full-fledged multi-tasking. The OS of the two phones are distinctly apart but are nice and sought after these days. Samsung Galaxy S II works on Android Gingerbread operating system and Nokia Lumia 900 will be working on Microsoft Windows 7.5-Mango operating system. Nokia Lumia 900 will have an inbuilt 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor while Galaxy S II has an Exynos chipset with dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9. Both have an 8 megapixels front camera with auto focus. Lumia 900 does video recording at 1080p@30fps while Lumia 900 will record at 720p@30fps despite of having a dual LED flashlight as compared to single LED flashlight of Galaxy S II.
Both have Wi-Fi 802.11 but Galaxy S II comes with a Bluetooth 3.0-version while Lumia 900 has Bluetooth 2.1-version. Lumia 900 is a clear winner here with 4-G LTE technology over GPRS, EDGE and HSPA+, 2-G and 3-G support available on Samsung Galaxy S II. Galaxy S II is available in 16GB/32GB internal storage models while Lumia 900 is available in 16 GB internal storage only. Galaxy S II will also have an external card slot that is absent in Nokia Lumia 900. Nokia Lumia has a better 1830 mAh battery against 1650 mAh battery of Samsung Galaxy S II. The price tag of both the phone revolves around Rs. 30,000.
