Nokia 1280 Review
Proving the quote “Old is Gold” true Nokia 1280 can be considered as the mobile handset suitable for the users who prefer to use mobile phone only for talking purpose rather than concentrating more on its latest additional technical features. With 1.36 inches Monochrome screen Nokia 1280 has screen resolution of 96 x 68 pixels. It supports the 2G GSM network only unlike the latest 3G smartphones capturing the market these days.
There are not any worth mentioning features about Nokia 1280 except that it adorns certain common and one latest feature of inbuilt FM radio that is provided to entertain the users during leisure time. Besides this other common feature which in fact is the oldest feature embedded in every phones despite of their high or low prices is feature of messages (Short message service). To support the messaging feature Nokia 1280 is designed by virtual keypad that supports an easy access to typing message of 160 characters. With an objective of enhancing the entertainment feature for the user Nokia 1280 is blessed with feature of MP3 ringtones which the user can assign to different contacts noted in the phone address book. It also endorse the user to store maximum contacts upto 500 in phone book with a facility of storing different calls including dialed number, missed calls and received calls.
Additional features adorned in Nokia 1280 include flashlight that is very useful for the users residing in rural areas who can use it during power cut in nights. Calendar endorses the user to manage his future engagements and various assignments by marking their dates on adorned calendar. Voice memo acts like an answering machine to remind user about the phone calls missed by the user by repeating message left on Voice memo application. The feature of predictive text input enhances the user to type special characters in message in form of upper and lower case of alphabets. Finally the last but not the least the phone supports feature of exchangeable color covers for the young users those who like to use phone with different color Nokia 1280 provides the facility of changing its body cover according to their choice to let them surprise their friends for using new phone every time they meet.
No doubt, Nokia 1280 does not carry any worth mentioning features that can be highlighted about it except that it can be liked by users like first time buyers or school going children who dont want to use the mobile for anything else, but talking.
Overall Review
Nokia has certainly lost its fervour and its position in the cell phone market, courtesy the rise of Android. There has always been a lot of criticism for Nokia not adopting the Android platform for its Smartphones but the company has been firm in its stand and maintained their Smartphone platform with Symbian. They have though gone with the Windows operating system with great vigour for some reasons and although the same does offer a alternate to Android, its following is still nowhere close to Android. But a lot of other powerhouse companies like HTC and Apple have not gone for the low range products but Nokia and Samsung are not alien to such segments. Nokia 1280 is another such example of a low range product with the device featuring a very small 1.36-inh of display. Yes, that is right, we never even thought that such miniscule screens were still being manufactured. The device weighs almost 82 grams and has a length of 107.2mm, a breadth of 45.1mm along with a height of 15.3mm. The display of the device is backed by the monochromatic graphic technology and has 96 x 68 pixels of resolution to back it up. Internal memory of the device is also as small as the device with the user getting a facility to store up to 500 contacts along with 20 dialed, 20 received, 20 missed calls information. But more than that if the user desires to store more, its better you buy a new device as there is no microSD card slot either. There is an FM radio facility by which the user can listen to the popular radio stations but other features like a music player and a video player are absent, so basically if one is looking for entertainment, the device is certainly not for him. One useful feature that the device does offer is the Flashlight facility but the device is not Dual SIM, trait that many other low end devices offer today. Battery though has always been the strong point for Nokia devices and same is the case with Nokia 1280. The device runs on the standard lithium ion battery of 800mAh that gives a formidable talk time of up to 8 hours and 30 minutes along with a standby time of up to 538 hours. Available in the colors of Black, Gray, Blue, Orchid, the device also gets exchangeable color shells. Apart from that, some other features offered by the device include a calender, a voice memo and a predictive text input.
User Interface and UI functionality
Nokia 1280 comes with a 1.36-inch screen giving a resolution of 96 x 68 pixels along with a pixel density of 87ppi. The monochrome graphic screen can be interacted with the help of an alphanumeric keypad.
Multimedia features
Nokia 1280 features a FM radio player through which the user can listen to all the radio stations that are accessible in the concerned cities. But apart from that, the services of music player and a video player are not available so the multimedia features are pretty limited.
Pictures and Video quality
Nokia 1280 has no camera facilities, no audio/video player.
Internal and External Memory
Nokia 1280 has a very small internal memory which can only store 500 contact information's apart from 20 dialed, 20 received, 20 missed calls. Also, there is no microSD card slot, so that user can go for any kind of memory expansion.
Applications and Gaming
Nokia 1280 has limited games and as far as applications are concerned, calender or a voice memo is all you get. Don't even start thinking of comparing the apps with Android apps.
Battery Backup
Nokia 1280 has a 800mAh standard lithium ion battery which is probably the best part of the device that gives a talk time of up to 8 hours and 30 minutes while the standby time offered is up to 528 hours.
Connectivity Offered
There is nothing to talk about in connectivity section, except the fact that Nokia 1280 packs a 3.5mm of audio jack.
Compare
Nokia 1280 when compared to Samsung Guru E1200 has a smaller screen size with the former featuring a 1.36-inch display and the latter 1.52-inch screen. Nokia 1280 supports the 3.5mm jack which is not the case with Samsung Guru E1200. Samsung Guru E1200 has a better screen resolution with 128 x 128 pixels as compared to Nokia 1280's 96 x 68 pixels. Dimensions are almost same in both the handsets. Nokia 1280 has no support for a microSD card slot but Samsung Guru E1200 does support the same. Samsung Guru E1200 has a longer battery life as it offers a standby time of 800 hours as compared to Nokia 1280's 528 hours.
Nokia 1280 when compared to Karbonn K55 has a smaller screen with the former featuring a 1.36-inch screen and the latter has a 2.4-inch display. Karbonn K55 has the Dual SIM facility which the Nokia 1280 does not. Karbonn K55 also has a 1.3 megapixel camera whereas the Nokia 1280 does not even have a camera. Karbonn K55 has a microSD card slot support for up to 8GB whereas Nokia 1280 has no microSD card slot.
