Motorola RAZR Maxx Review

Motorola has been in the limelight due to its urge to manufacture the tempting products out of the door in the recent years. When Motorola RAZR hit the market last year, it had everything we wanted from an Android smartphone. It still stands up well today. The all new Motorola RAZR Maxx is somewhat identical to its predecessor, that is, Motorola RAZR in every aspect but it improves on the formula and has an edge over its sibling and is receiving a huge departure from the company. It has new improved features that help it to stand apart from all other smartphones. This time Motorola has paid attention towards the battery and upgraded it to a huge power of 3,300 mAh. A power large enough to keep you stay connected with the world. Its simply the biggest power delivering battery that can be ever seen in an Android smartphone (and more than double the size of the current iPhone 4S).

Noticeable things in this device are its size and weight, its dimensions are 131 mm x 69 mm x 9 mm and its weight is 145 grams, light enough to slip in anywhere pretty easily. The screen is also the same as in the original Razr, with a Super AMOLED display screen of size 4.3 inches and provides a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The screen is nice and bright. Outdoor usability is just about average though. While the screen was pretty impressive when the first new Razr was released back in 2011, it is comparatively less catchy this time. In terms of ports RAZR Maxx offers a micro-USB, micro-SD, HDMI and 3.5 mm headphone jack. The device features volume and power buttons that are placed along its right-hand side. It is also imbibed with four capacitive touch buttons on its front, out of which probably three will still be used once the device gets upgraded from Android 2.3 Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich.

When in hand, the gadget feels nice to hold, its increased size is all set to provide you a great and delightful experience to surf, watch videos and stay connected. If it comes to memory and space, this device is not ready to sacrifice at all. With an external memory extensible upto 32 GB it is coming all the way to allow its user to store vast amount of data. However, internal memory disappoints a little bit as this phone is providing 1 MB internal memory which is less when compared to other available smartphones in the market. This device is not offering FM radio, which is a bit disappointing but it effectively supports most of the audio and video formats giving the users full freedom to load songs and videos in any format.

It is being empowered by the dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM.The actual performance of the Maxx is reasonable, with the device being more than capable of dealing with everyday tasks. Surfing the internet over WiFi or 3G is fairly smooth, with the device usually taking between five to 10 seconds to load a webpage and streaming video generally runs lag free. One of  RAZR Maxx's biggest shortcomings is the fact that it runs using the now outdated 2.3 Gingerbread Android version. Motorola has promised the device will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of quarter, but it's still disappointed that the company didn't choose to use it from launch.

One of the considerable service that can be found on the device is the company's MotoCast service. MotoCast is a service that lets users sync their phone with their computer to access files remotely. As long as the synced computer is on, the service lets you add and view music, video and Office files from your computer while on the go. RAZR Maxx is embedded with an 8 MP front facing and 1.3MP rear facing camera. Like the original Razr, while the rear-facing camera is competent, it's not astounding, especially in low light conditions. Talking about the video quality, this device allows you to record high quality 1080p HD videos. So you can probably stay assured of the video quality.

In all, it is recommended to atleast look upon other smartphones as well if you're thinking to buy Motorola RAZR Maxx, though this device won't let you down when brought in use.

Overall Review

Motorola RAZR Maxx is a high end smartphone by Motorola that is running on the widely used Android platform and is an updated version of the best selling Motorola RAZR. This smartphone belongs to one of the slimmest phones category and resembles a lot to its previous sibling, RAZR, in terms of its design and body built. This device is marketed as a the first smartphone to have such a big battery that can lasts for many days and also provides a very long talktime, which no other smartphone in the market is capable of giving. With such a huge battery, the company still manage to keep the device extremely thin, which is a good job. Though the phone is very slim but still it is not a weak device as it is made strong with DuPont KEVLAR fiber, while Corning Gorilla Glass defends the screen against scratches and scrapes. A force field of water-repellent nano particles shields the phone and the chip boards against water attacks. Motorola RAZR Maxx comes with a size of 130.7 mm x 68.9 mm x 9 mm and carries a very reasonable weight of 145 grams with battery that is very noteworthy. The front has the same four Android keys for Menu, Home, Back and Search and right below these capacitive touch controls now will find the primary microphone. The other dedicated buttons of the device are very well located and does not lead to any accidental press of any button. The right side of the device is home for a volume rocker and power buttons, whereas the a microSD card slot covered by a rotating flip and a microSIM card slot are very nicely placed on the left part. MicroUSB and mini HDMI outputs are residing on the top along with a 3.5 mm universal headphone jack, while the bottom is left untouched. The phone has curved corners that look good and the sloping back feels good in the hand. The stainless steel bezel around the display gives the device a premium look and makes it pretty comfortable in hands. Keeping the battery aside, this smartphone is very identical to the last RAZR and the users will find the free MotoCast application on Motorola RAZR Maxx too, that provides infinite access to limitless libraries. This application let the users play back music from their computer on the phone, wherever they are and the users can also programme their RAZR Maxx to automatically switch to silent when the calendar notifies that they are busy in a meeting or so. MotoCast USB can sync photos, podcasts, documents and even workout data with the device and it is the fastest way to get the favorite content onto the phone or tablet. The MotoCast Wireless allow the users to stream music, videos, documents, etc., from their other devices and the users can grab all the downloaded multimedia files from their computer to the phone, no matter wherever they are and whenever they want, they will get it without taxing their phone's memory. They can also get the unlimited access to their personal files from MyMotoCast.com that permits full access to their data wirelessly. This application provides secure sharing of all the data the users have saved on their personal computer as they can access the stored files by a unique user name and password, so they can stay connected with their PC all the time. This smartphone also supports GPS with the help of a A-GPS support and GLONASS that enables the users to determine their current location, time and velocity. Apart from this, there are Accelerometer, Proximity, Ambient light, Battery temperature and Digital compass sensors in the front of the device that automate or easy many of the daily tasks. Accelerometer sensor helps in detecting the orientation of the phone and it also measures the rate of change for different things. The Proximity sensor detects the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact, whereas the Digital Compass sensor provides a simple orientation in relation to the Earth's magnetic field as a result the users will always be aware in which direction they are heading towards. The Ambient light sensor automatically adjust the backlighting of the instrument panel according to the varying ambient-light conditions and the Battery temperature sensor aware the users regarding the increasing temperature of the battery due to continuous usage.

To make the screen scratch resistant, it is made up of Corning Gorilla glass that also supports multi touch facility so that the users can give multiple commands to the device using the display. The screen is very good and it is not too hard to see in outdoor lighting conditions as the display is light responsive and automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen according to the ambiance. The smartphone has virtual on-screen QWERTY keyboard that respond to multi touch very fast and also has Swype feature. The users can also give voice commands to Motorola RAZR Maxx through Google Voice Search, Voice Actions and Voice Commands. Motorola has used its custom Motoswitch user interface and software in the device. Motoswitch re-skins Android adding a slew of custom icons and graphical flourishes. The MotoCast is a service that let users sync their phone with their computer to access files remotely. As long as the synced computer is on, the service lets them add and view music, video and Office files from their computer while on the go.
