Micromax X50 is a latest dual SIM rugged phone in the Indian markets. The phone is made available in the market at a very reasonable amount. The handset sports a 2.4 inches TFT display (LED Type). The display of the device features a Thermometer, Barometer, Pedometer and E-Compass sensors. Micromax X50 comes with a built in 2.0 mega pixel rear camera with digital zoom, shoots decent quality pictures and videos. It has an internal memory of about 28 MB and according to the user requirements, the memory of the phone can be expanded up to 16 GB by using a micro SD card. The handset also renders features like Dual LED torch light, Water proof, shock proof and UV detection.
Micromax X50 offers several connectivity options like WAP, EDGE and USB, Bluetooth for local data connectivity. In order to keep access to the Internet services, it has GPRS option. The basic features of the handset are Email support, call recording and GPS navigation with compass. The Micromax X50 phone offers messaging applications like E-mail, Messengers and MMS. Micromax X50 allows user to play multi format audio files and video files. The gadget also support a stereo FM Radio to enhance the entertainment choice of the phone.
Overall Review
Micromax X50 is a rugged phone and extremely affordable also. The dual SIM phone, Micromax X50 is IXP5 certified that proved beyond doubt that it is extremely suitable for performing very well in harsh conditions. It is almost completely shock resistant and water proof. It can stand functional for up to 30 minutes in 1 m deep water and also has a dual LED torch. This phone deserves admiration for having assimilated several useful features inside. It looks like a typical feature phone in bar form design and with dual SIM dual standby capabilities. It has a 2.4 inch TFT display which is made in such a way that it can display 262 K colors.
Micromax X50 is also studded with a decent digital camera, enough internal memory to assimilate 500 phonebook entries and enough text messages, external memory support via 16 GB micro SD card. The dual SIM handset uses GSM/GPRS network for running its operations. This handset belongs to a domestic mobile brand and has read the minds of people of the country. Henceforth, this phone will meet the specific requirements of the lower middle class segment buyers completely. The allowed audio formats on its player are MP3, AMR, MIDI, WAV and there is audio streaming possibilities on this device also. In general the audio experience on Micromax X50 is quite tolerable. It also allows playing of polyphonic and MP3 ringtones. It has has a digital camera capable of taking still shots only.
Pictures and Video quality
Most amusingly, the Micromax X50 digital zoom camera can click still shots only. Rear based phone digital camera takes shots at a recorded resolution of 160 X 1200 pixels. The picture quality is poor and that is for obvious reasons. It is because of low pixel count and lack of technological features in this camera. It cannot shoot videos and thus question of its video quality does not arise.
Internet support
Micromax X50 isn’t made for any Internet surfing though it has an embedded WAP 2.0 browser. It is thus clearly not a 3 G device. It runs on the quad bandwidth of 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequency of 2G GSM/GPRS network.
Internal and External Memory
Barely 28 MB of internal memory is found in Micromax X50 but it can expand its horizons. It can be expanded to an upper limit of 16 GB with a compatible microSD card which makes room for multimedia data saving.
Applications and Gaming
There are as such no pre-installed applications inside Micromax X50. It has different purposes to serve and it does that well. It is equipped with sensors that are required to make it a rugged phone like pressure and temperature sensing barometer and thermometer. It can, however, keeps its users amused with some games that are installed inside.
Battery Backup
The Micromax X50 does not really have a mammoth battery comapred to many dual SIM devices. It just has a 900 mAh capacity Li-ion type battery capable of giving just sufficient battery backup. Users can talk for up to 3 hours at a stretch on their rugged dual SIM phone and keep it on standby for up to 270 hours.
Connectivity Offered
For local connectivity and data sharing, Micromax X50 has Bluetooth v2.0 and USB port. There isn’t any Wi Fi capability in this device and it allows data sharing only via Bluetooth. For communication, Micromax X50 facilitates SMS and MMS.

The dual SIM Micromax X50 is a great phone in its class even when compared with brand names such as Samsung. Samsung Marine B2100 is another rugged phone available in the market and is priced a little below this one. It costs approx. Rs. 4,100 but is not a dual SIM handset. It is compliant with Military standards 810F, resistant to shock, dust and extreme temperature. It is also IP57 certified and lasts up to 30 minutes under 1 m water depth without getting damaged. However, it offers a 1.3 mega pixels camera with flash and video recording whereas Micromax X50 just has a digital camera with potential to click stills only. The Samsung Marine B2100 has 7 MB internal memory and 8 GB external memory via microSD card. Its memory is less than Micromax X50 which has 28 MB of internal memory and potential to fit in 16 GB microSD card. Samsung Marine 2100 has a smaller screen, just a 1.8 inch wide TFT display with 120 x 160 pixels resolution. It enjoys GSM connectivity with EDGE on quad band frequencies. This rugged phone also has stereo FM radio with RDS, multi format audio player and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR. It has 1000 mAH battery with talk time value of 9 hours. Micromax X50 has lesser powerful battery. There is hardly any difference in the prices of these two phones. For the brand conscious, Samsung Marine B2100 might be a good choice but those who wish to chose on the basis of credentials, it is certain that Micromax X50 also has mammoth potential. For the budget-bound Indian buyer, it offers best of features and specs in its class and has huge potential to be a success in the market.
