LG Optimus L7 Review
Since past couple of years, LG mobiles have been working hard in making its Optimus portfolio amplified and impressive. Now, LG mobiles is here with LG Optimus L7, which is an Android smartphone and has been blessed with some extra ordinary features. The camera here is spectacular, while the screen is perfect. The web browsing experience on this handset is mesmerizing and the connectivity features are quite remarkable. This time around, LG mobiles has literally worked its best and produced something that would become a threat to other Android smartphones in the market.
Starting with its strong technical points, the new LG Optimus L7 comes with a strong and sturdy dual-core processor running at a speed of 1 GHz. This processor has been powered by the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and accompanied by TI OMAP 4430 Chipset and Accelerometer, proximity sensors. The 512 MB of RAM helps the Android OS to run smoothly and without any kind of trouble. The inbuilt memory space in LG Optimus L7 is about 4 GB that could be further expanded up to 32 GB via microSD card. Furthermore, this device features a very stunning 4.3 inches of IPS LCD, capacitive touch screen display that has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. This 4.3 inches of screen is utterly perfect for watching movies and viewing images.
On the other hand, to capture high definition of images and videos, LG Optimus L7 comes with 5 megapixels of rear camera with LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus facilities. The secondary VGA camera is perfect for making video calls, while the 5 megapixels of camera is capable of recording 1080p videos at the rate of 30 frames per second.
Coming to the connectivity features, LG Optimus L7 doesn’t let down the users here too. The handset comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPRS and EDGE support that would help the user in connecting to the Internet without any problem. The HTML 5 Adobe Flash browser is present to enhance the overall net browsing experience on the device. On the other hand, the high speed data transmission is also possible via Bluetooth and microUSB port. This means users can transfer data to and fro to other corresponding devices without any trouble. In its entirety, LG Optimus one is perfect Android smartphone, which is not only user friendly but is also available for an affordable and competitive price tag.
Overall Review
LG Optimus L7 is the top most handset in the L series line up of LG smartphones and carries Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It is characterized by its well-designed body structure and large 4.3" touch display with “floating mass” feature. This is no hi-fi technology but the positioning of display closer to screen for floating like impression. LG Optimus L7 is among the leanest handsets in the market and measures just 8.7 mm in thickness and thus can be easily carried all the time. The white plastic sheet on the back is given a lined texture. It looks smart and renders strength to the body of the phone as well.
Under the hood is a single-core 1GHz processor and that's a bit of an improvement so that users can go for slightly faster speed while using the phone as against some other phones in this segment. There is 512 MB RAM coupled with 4 GB memory space in the device. It has a 1700 mAh battery unit for getting requisite power. Moreover, there is a 5 megapixels A/F camera in the phone.
Overall, LG Optimus L7 is a pretty impressive budget smartphone that brings along a fresh design and nice operating platform for alluring maximum number of buyers.
User Interface and UI functionality
LG Optimus L7 has a great design and it is well built and sturdy as well. If it isn’t a showstopper, it isn’t a sloop either. It has acquired the top notch place in the L-line range of LG handsets which has that ravishing style. It is lightweight, measures less than 9mm in thickness and has a 4.3 inches large shining NOVA display.
On top of it, there is Ice Cream Sandwich operating system to enhance its functionality. The whole user experience will be hugely improvised because in its price category, LG Optimus L7 is one of those few handsets which have this latest operating platform. Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS with LG’s 3.0 user interface overlay shines because it crams along those simple tweaks as resizing of live widgets and more.
There are multiple homescreens (as a standard) wherein you can fill as many icons for probably all the available apps if or also use Android's widgets to give information on each of them without actually opening each app separately. This also prevents cluttering up and one can also easily find and see the recently downloaded apps without opening the menu. The operations are fairly smooth and there occurs no noticeable while swiping between the homescreens or opening apps. The physical button on the front is given to maneuver users to the home screen in the Android interface. On the whole, the ICS interface is pretty easy to use.
In usage again, because of the 1.5 GHz processor, one can experience a smooth cruising around the menu options. LG Optimus L7 does not deliver the fastest performance but it cares to give you the most flexible and fun-filled Android experience.
Multimedia features
LG Optimus L7 features a standard in-built music player that can play music in multiple formats viz. MP3, eAAC+, WMA, WAV. For audio output, there is a 3.5mm audio jack.
Pictures and Video quality
Sadly, the 5 megapixels camera of LG Optimus L7 fails to impress. It is equipped with LED Flash but yet it does not even shine in the dark. It clicks some hasty-nasty shots that are not adequately packed with colors and proportionate brightness levels. The pictures are okay and not something to treasure. More annoying is the absence of a side-mounted shutter button. One has to keep tapping and pressing the touchscreen for taking the shot.
The videos clicked in 720p are shot at 30 frames per second speed but they also lack quality. They are mostly blurred and crammed with excessive background noise.
Overall, we find that the camera of Optimus 7 is not too impressive and the pixel count and presence of LED flash does not help either.
Internet support
The L7 may be part of a budget range of phones, but that doesn't stop it from shipping with the HTML browser with Adobe Flash player browser plug-in. There also is support for 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network for Internet access. But for those who prefer to do browsing on the move, the screen of LG Optimus L7 is of good size but you will often find yourself digging to see it properly.
Internal and External Memory
There is 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory in LG Optimus L7. The phone also accepts microSD/SDHC cards up to 32 GB capacity.
Applications and Gaming
There isn’t any quad-core processor but neither can the 1.5 GHz processor of LG Optimus L7 can be considered absolutely sedate. It keeps the fun factor on a high and allows for hassle-free gaming and apps usage on the device. And with Google Play on the deck, there is no lack of options to choose from. There is Angry Birds Space and many more motion-based and even 3D games that are waiting to be explored by you.
Battery Backup
LG Optimus 7 has set inside 1700 mAH large battery unit for powering the handset. It gives sufficient talk time of up to 4 hours and stand-by time of 4.2 days.
Connectivity Offered
The LG Optimus L7 features Bluetooth v.3.0, Wi Fi 802.11 b/g and Wi-Fi hotspot support alongside microUSB 2.0 and so its data connectivity capabilities are quite good in every aspect.
Compare
LG Optimus L7 might have tough time grabbing headlines also because it is pretty similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II handset. If placed side-by-side, one can see those common design features quite clearly. Both the handsets have 4.3" display, chrome edges and large buttons below the screen. The 4.3" screen of the phone is sharp but not as bold as the screen on the Galaxy S II. For those who want a great screen, Galaxy S II is a better choice. Since Galaxy S II came first, LG Optimus L7 might be received as its successor and not as a new LG phone. LG can rather fit it as a well crafted, mid range Android handset in the market the USP of which will be its operating system that is the latest ICS.
