LG Optimus L3 Review
LG mobiles have been working pretty hard to make its portfolio more enhanced and impressive than other mobile companies in the market. The Optimus range smartphones from LG Mobiles have been quite successful and to make the range stronger and better, the company is here with LG Optimus L3. This is an Android smartphone comprising of impressive and user friendly features. This smartphone might give a direct competition to handsets like Samsung Galaxy Ace, Motorola Defy, and Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray etc.
Starting with the main features, LG Optimus L3 is blessed with a striking 3.2 inches of TFT capacitive touch screen that has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The screen is perfect for viewing images and watching videos. This multi touch screen has impressive functionality, which is quite hassle-free. Under the skin, LG Optimus L3 is blessed with a dynamic processor clocked at the speed of 800 MHz. this processor is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, which in turn will give the user a complete right to use Google Play Store (earlier known as Android Market). To enhance the workability and performance of the OS, 348 MB of RAM is present. As far as internal memory space is concerned, LG mobiles has blessed LG Optimus L3 with 1 GB of internal memory storage that can be used for storing massive amount of data like videos, movies, songs, mp3 files, games, applications etc. if this memory is not sufficient for the user, the microSD card slot comes as a savior. This microSD card slot supports up to 32 GB of microSD memory card.
The camera department of LG Optimus L3 is also a strong point for the device. The smartphone comes with 3.15 megapixels of camera with geo-tagging and autofocus facilities. This rear camera could capture decent quality videos, but due to lack of secondary camera, LG mobiles might have to suffer a loss of some revenue as every other smartphone these days features dual camera support. The connectivity features of LG Optimus L3 are also impressive. The user is given the option to connect to internet by the means of 3G, GPRS/EDGE support and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. what is more interesting here is that the device can be easily turned into a Wi-Fi hotspot. On the other hand, high-speed data transmission to other matching devices is also possible via Bluetooth and Micro USB port. All in all, LG Optimus L3 is an affordable Android smartphone that sports user-friendly and technically sound features and is available at a very competitive price.
Overall Review
LG Optimus L3 is a rather smart choice. At the price of an entry-level phone, one can taste the sweetness of most desirable design pattern in LG Optimus L3. It has a typical squarish-kind of design with textured back and rectangular metallic frame around a tacky plastic shell case. The Optimus L3 fits in the palm easily due to its small size but is quite thick (measures 11.7mm). The specifications on the Otpimus L3 are the standard one only. It has an 800MHz processor, 3 megapixels camera and runs on Android Gingerbread OS but don’t forget that all that alluring concoction comes at dirt cheap price also. This LG handset will come in a range of colors to attract as many buyers as possible. It manages to do all the standard jobs very quickly and for a first time smartphone user or somebody on a tight budget; it is a damn good option. ]]>User Interface and UI functionality
LG Optimus L3 boasts a 3.2-inch QVGA TFT touch-screen which definitely is a far cry from the displays of high-end smartphones. It lacks resolution (just about 240 x 320 pixels) and its performance indoors and outdoors is equally horrible. Also, this bright and clear display is a little grainy also. We hear that due to inadequate power under its hood (it uses an 800 MHz ARM cortex A5 core processor), it does not run the Android ICS operating system. The L3 manages with Android v2.3.5 Gingerbread and hopefully will get an upgrade in future. As of now, it runs Android 2.3.5 quite well and one can easily swipe between all the pages of applications and also do butter smooth transitions between the 5 home-screens.Not so popular LG’s own 3.0 UI has been overlaid on top of Android OS in L3 and it supports simple and quick navigation. The main menu is aligned vertically instead of horizontal arrangement. This is kind of weird arrangement and if many apps are installed, one has to keep scrolling to land on to the right page. Physical buttons are not only accessible from all corners and sides of the handset but are also easy to press and quickly respond.
]]>Multimedia features
The music player on LG Optimus L3 is a pretty standard one and plays music besides displaying album art and stuff like that. If that’s not enough one can go forth and download a third party music player from Google Play because a Gingerbread device authenticates you to do that. The plight is when you love watching videos on your phone and that’s because the screen of L3 is ugly. The phone can play 800 x 480 pixel videos but one won’t enjoy watching them due to the limitations of its screen. ]]>Pictures and Video quality
There isn’t a camera button first of all in LG Optimus L3. But that doesn’t mean that the 3 megapixels camera app is altogether bad. It opens up in less than 2 seconds though the shutter speed is slow and one encounters a 2 second lag while images are being clicked. Next up are the camera settings which are far too many for an entry level smartphone. There is ISO, white balance, color effects and many focusing modes. But there isn’t a flash and so no hope for photography lovers in the night time. But the kind of product one gets initially is mostly lifeless and dull. There is problem in the clicked snaps. They don’t really look bright and colorful. The videos are shot at 30 fps, so speed is good but again the quality is compromised and does not impress. On the whole, the budget nature of L3 shows its effects on its camera.
]]>
Internet support
The browser of LG Optimus L3 is good and it browses well but reading on its poor display is a pain. Everything especially the graphics are so dismantled that one cannot enjoy watching them. Thanks to the 3G connectivity, even Internet access is fast and one can download at 3.6 Mbits/second. The 800 MHz processor supports Adobe Flash player browser plug-in as well. Consequently, the Flash animations run smoothly on LG Optimus L3. ]]>Internal and External Memory
LG Optimus L3 has built-in memory of 1 GB. It is quite sufficient to add and save as many apps and games and other multimedia stuff on the device. ]]>Applications and Gaming
LG has not really compromised in powering the LG Optimus L3 and it has a good 800 Mhz processor which allows smooth use of all the installed apps and games. It is a delight to play “typical Android games” like Angry Birds Space, Fruit Ninja, Temple Run, etc. Besides engaging in 3D and motion-based games on L3. ]]>Battery Backup
LG Optimus L3 has a battery unit capable of delivering up to 10 hours of 3G and 12.5 hours of 2G talk-time. It can remain on stand-by for up to 25 days, which is quite an achievement by modern standards. ]]>Connectivity Offered
Messaging and texting on full width screen with virtual QWERTY keypad in landscape mode is easy. But because the screen is small (just about 3.2") hitting wrong buttons is quite natural at times. The A-GPS works quite accurately and finds the desired location without any trouble. The Wi-Fi is also great stuff to use. ]]>Compare
Price wise, LG Optimus L3 goes head-to-head with Samsung Galaxy Mini 2. Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 is another budget Android handset from top rival Samsung. It is a compact and small handset with 3.27-inch, 320 x 480p TFT touchscreen and also sports a fixed focus 3 megapixels camera. Under the hood, it also has a single-core 800MHz processor and packs in 1,300 mAh battery and 4GB of storage. It leads against L3 in terms of storage and display quality and one must also consider the fact that user interface of Samsung Android devices are a far cry from those of LG handsets. However, in context with Optimus L3, it is its stylish “L-line design” and 3G connectivity support which are also of vital consideration. It is perfectly usable and allows one to run 3D games and Flash animations. Its battery life is also above average.
