Karbonn A7 comes with a 3.5 inch capacitive screen that works at a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels. The device comes with a bar design and has the dual SIM facility that allows the user to keep two SIMs in a single device. Various multimedia features offered by the device include a music player and a video player where the music player lets the user listen to their favourite musical tracks, while the video player facilitates watching videos with great clarity and comfort. The music can be heard by the user through the loudspeakers or through the earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5 mm jack. The Radio FM allows the user to access all the popular radio stations whereas other data connectivity features like bluetooth makes sure that the user gets to connect the device with other devices and transfer data to that device or receive data from it. The data exchanged may include music files, games, images and videos. The USB port lets the user connect the device with their computers and laptops or any other device with similar peripherals through the USB cable and exchange data with it. The user can charge the device through the same procedure as well. Powered by the Android 2.3 gingerbread operating system, Karbonn A7 is backed by the 800 MHz processor along with the standard lithium ion battery of 1420 mAh. The battery is pretty formidable and makes sure that the user gets to enjoy all the features of the device without his or her entertainment being cut short. The user gets a talk time of up to 4 hours along with a standby time of up to 100 hours. The camera is also pretty healthy with a strength of 5 megapixel allowing the user to click pictures with ease and clarity. The LED flash facility allows the user to click pictures in the dark when the natural light is not satisfactory. The video recording facility allows the user to shoot videos with remarkable picture quality. There is no provision for a secondary camera. The device comes with the Wi-Fi facility as well that lets the user access the web and download desired data including music files, games, images and videos. The user can also access all the popular social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter. There is also the GPRS and EDGE facility where the GPRS facility allows the user to keep track of the desired locations with ease.
Overall Review
There is no shortage in the number of tier 2 companies available in the country and Karbonn is another one. Although they have had a reasonable success in the last year or so, they are still not the audience's first choice. The company basically produces devices for the rural segment and does try to concentrate at the lower middle segment of the urban population as well. Also what a tier 2 company does, is provide users with cheap Android smartphones to choose from. Also since the brand name is not as big as some of the other major players, there would be more features than what their more reputed counterparts would offer for the same price. Karbonn A7 is another such example with the device that runs on the Android Gingerbread operating system and features a 3.5 inch HVGA display that gives a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels.
There is nothing special about the screen resolution which would be apparent on watching videos which would become blurry if zoomed. The camera is of 5 megapixel strength and produces nice pictures that justifies the pixel it represents while the LED flash facility also helps during low light conditions. There is also a secondary camera for video calling, whose addition would be another plus point. The device supports dual SIM facility that makes sure that the user does not have to switch SIM's or keep two devices for having two numbers. The device has a built in memory of 512MB which makes sure that the user can keep loads of data including music files, games, images and videos. The external memory can be further stretched up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card slot.
The standard lithium ion battery of 1,420mAh gives a good amount of standby time but the talk time offered is pretty less and leaves a lot to be desired for. Internet can be accessed through the WAP browser while Wi-Fi also provides wireless access to web. But as far as the other high profile features are concerned, like the Wi-Fi hotspot, are not available. A music player and a video player round up the multimedia features, which should keep the users entertained. Some of the other important features offered by the device include STK, Screen Saver, Wallpaper, Power On/Off Animation, Caller ID, Mobile TV, CLID with Photo, Call Conference, Languages (English), Calculator, Alarm Clock, Stop Watch, World Times, Speed Dialing, Organizer, Ringtone Composer, Voice Recorder, Currency Converter, Health Management, Built-in Data & Fax Modem.
User Interface and UI functionality
Karbonn A7 has a 3.5 inch screen that gives a mediocre resolution of 320 by 480 pixels and can be interfaced with through the touch screen technology. Frankly, this is not one of the best screen qualities one would come across, but is fair according to its price.
Multimedia features
Karbonn A7 has a music player, which gives access to all the latest songs that the entertainment world has to offer. The music player further makes sure that the user can listen to his or her favourite songs in the formats MP3, MIDI, WAV, AMR, AAC, AAC+ whereas the video player that lets the user watch videos, supports MP4, 3GP, AVI, H.263 and H.264 video formats. Music can be heard through the loudspeakers or through the earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5mm jack. There is an FM radio too for accessing radio stations available in the desired cities.
Pictures and Video quality
Karbonn A7 has a 5 megapixels camera that makes sure that pictures can be clicked at a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels. There is also the dual LED Flash facility that makes sure that the user can click pictures in dim light with clarity whereas the digital zoom facility can be used for clicking better pictures from a farther distance. Videos can also be shot while a secondary VGA camera for web calling is also provided.
Internet support
Karbonn A7 has the Wi-Fi facility, which does well in terms of giving fast access to web and apart from this, you can also connect the Internet via GPRS and EDGE facility.

Karbonn A7 has an internal memory of 512MB, which should be enough for those who are not big on keeping a large collection of data but those who are, can avail the benefit of a microSD card slot that makes the device flexible in terms of memory. The user can then extend the external memory up to 32GB.

Karbonn A7 has lots of games and apps that should keep the user entertained and engaged. More games and apps can be downloaded from the web as and when required with Android offering a huge domain of apps and games like Temple Run and Angry Birds.

Both the devices have the dual SIM facility whereas the processor for Karbonn A7 is much faster than Micromax A50. There is a stark difference in the camera resolution offered by both devices where Karbonn A7 features a 5 megapixels primary camera as compared to Micromax A50's 2 megapixels camera. There is no secondary camera for Micromax A50 but Karbonn A7 has a VGA secondary camera that can be used for video calling. The battery strength is more with Karbonn A7 but the amount of talk time and standby time is same with both the handsets.
