Huawei Honor is a well-designed Android smartphone that’s the company’s current flagship model. This stylish Gingerbread-running smartphone comes with a 1.4GHz-powered Qualcomm MSM 8255Т chipset, 4" LCD display with FWVGA type resolution and 8 megapixels camera as some of its top features on the specs list.

Huawei Honor has a decent pair of cameras, an 8 megapixels rear cam with an LED flash, geotagging and HDR and a front-facing shooter. It struggles with white balance and washed-out colors in direct sunlight but does well in low-light. The clicked photos are the victim of additional noise but close-up shots capture details very well. The camera of Huawei Honor mainly offers the same settings but there is an added menu option for HDR. The sensor offers continuous autofocus but there is no dedicated shutter button to assist the operation.The Honor is capable of taking 720p HD videos, but the motion is slightly choppy, the colors washed out and the camera take extra time to adjust changes in exposure and brightness.

Huawei Honor runs on quad-band GSM and tri-band 3G support. For data transfer and connectivity, the phone facilitates users with Wi-Fi b/g/n; hot-spot and DLNA connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, A-GPS. The built-in web browser comes with Adobe Flash 11 support. In Huwaei Honor, there is 512MB worth of RAM, 4GB ROM, 1GB storage and microSD card support up to 32GB. Additionally, Huawei Cloud + Store offer exclusive content and 16GB of cloud storage. The handset is actually a very reasonable device that nicely covers the UX basics and adds extra value to Android by the means of Cloud+, Huawei Music, etc. The creativity in the Custom lockscreen (thanks to custom Huawei launcher) as it offers shortcuts to messaging, camera and missed calls, is also admirable.

The main drawbacks of this otherwise ‘A’ class droid smartphone are its poor display screen that attracts lots of smudges. There isn’t scope for video calling on Huwaei Honor despite of a built-in VGA camera. The hardware suffers from visible flaws as there is no hardware shutter key. The microSD card are non hot-swappable.

Well, apparently plain design and cheap gloss of Huawei Honor make it hard to believe that this one is a rather impressive and capable device. But the fact is that if few hardware shortcomings that Honor presents are considered okay, then perhaps the Huawei U8860 Honor is an easy pick. It is rather a good mid-range option with some high-end specs which definitely is a huge plus for people with tight budgets.

For those who don’t know, Huawei is a Chinese multinational firm known for making Telecom equipments. The company may not be a big name in the country yet but it already has a 2.3 percent share in the Smartphone and Tablets market for the year 2011. This share was even larger than Sony erricsson and Motorola. Huawei Honor is their preimier device and has a 4 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen while the camera is 8 megapixel. A secondary VGA camera backed by the Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot means that the user can access video chatting and video calling. Operating system is Android Gingerbread which can be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich but since the Android Jelly Bean is already out and update should soon be available. RAM is 512MB which is pretty decent although 1GB would have been much better but the internal memory is 1 GB with a microSD card slot allowing the user to stretch the memory up to as much as 32GB. The device is available in the colors of Glossy Black, Textured Black, Elegant White, Vibrant Yellow, Cherry Blossom Pink and Burgundy and is powered by the standard lithium ion battery of 1930 mAh which implies a talk time of up to 6 hours and 40 minutes along with a standby time of up to 380 hours. Processor is 1.4 GHz which means fast accessing of the resources of the system.

User Interface and UI functionality

Huawei Honor has a 4 inch screen, a common screen size in most premier devices, and offers a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels along with 16 million colors and works at a pixel density of 245 ppi. The screen is TFT capacitive and can be interacted with through the multi touch technology.

The camera though is more powerful with Huawei Honor with a 8 megapixel strength as compared to 5 megapixels offered by the Advance S camera.
