HTC Wildfire Review
Overall Review
HTC has always been ahead in terms of staying ahead of its competition in terms of its looks and design. The built of its devices are not only presentable but are sturdy as well. Consider HTC Wildfire, which is a combination of soft plastic touch along with a metal coating. The device has the dimensions 106.8mm x 60.4mm x 12 mm and weighs 118 grams which is considerably lighter than its predecessors. The 3.2 inch TFT screen is modest in demeanour and gives a humble resolution of 240 by 320 pixels and offers a pixel density of 125ppi. Internal RAM is 384MB, which is mediocre while the processing power of 528MHz ARMv6 is also not too impressive either. So this is certainly not the quickest device you will come across but there are other features with the device that does make it formidable as compared to its competitors falling in the same range in terms of price. First of those features is Android operating system, which is version 2.1 Eclairs, which again is far from what the latest of what the Android has to offer but the operating system in itself is formidable. Camera is of 5 megapixels, which works fine and offers a healthy resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels.
There is no secondary camera which is a drawback but the primary one is pretty impressive gives clarity in the quality of pictures produced. Multimedia department includes a music player, a video player and the radio FM which gives the user access to all the popular radio stations which are available in the respective cities. The battery strength is probably the best part about the device with a 1,300 mAh standard strength that gives a formidable talk time and standby time and makes sure that the user can operate on the device for a longer duration. The device is available in the colors of Black, Brown, White, Red and silver and comes with the Wi-Fi facility that allows the user to access web whereas other data connectivity features include GPRS, EDGE, USB and bluetooth. Other mentionable features include a dedicated search key, Facebook, Flickr, Twitter integration and access to Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Picasa.
User Interface and UI functionality
HTC Wildfire has a 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen that gives a resolution of 240 by 320 pixels along with 16 million colors and works at a pixel density of 125ppi. The screen can be interacted with through the multitouch technology along with the optical trackpad. The screen is further protected by the corning gorilla glass technology and backed by HTC sense UI.
Multimedia features
HTC Wildfire has a stereo FM radio that makes sure that the user can listen to all the popular radio stations and can also record the songs of his or her desires. The music player gives the user access to all the popular musical tracks that can be heard through the loudspeakers or through the earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5mm jack. The video player gives the user access to all the popular videos that the entertainment world has to offer which are compatible with the formats - MP4, H.263, H.264 and WMV9 player. The music player on the other hand is supported by the formats - MP3, AAC+, WAV and WMA9 player.
Pictures and Video quality
HTC Wildfire has a powerful 5 megapixels camera that allows the user to click pictures with clarity at a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels and comes with the autofocus, LED flash and Geo-Tagging facility. The auto focus features allows the user to click pictures with complete precision whereas the LED flash helps when the background is not that bright. The Geo-tagging facility can be used to tag friends and family members in the clicked pictures.
Internet support
HTC Wildfire has the Wi-Fi facility that ensures that the web can be accessed with too much of fuss and data can be downloaded including music files, games, images and videos. The device also has integration with Facebook, Flickr, Twitter along with YouTube, Google Talk, Picasa and Google Search, Maps, Gmail. The device can also use the luxuries of Wi-Fi hot spot if the operating system is upgraded to Android Froyo which means the device would be able to act as a hub for other devices in order to give Internet connections.
Internal and External Memory
HTC Wildfire has a microSD card slot which means that the external memory can be expanded up to 32GB thus allowing the users to store loads of data including music files, games, images and videos without worrying about the memory space running out. The 384MB RAM is not much to comment on expect a little more would have been nice to work with but still with the given amount the resources of the system can be accessed at a decent pace.
Applications and Gaming
HTC Wildfire has loads of games and apps and since the device comes with Android operating system it allows the user to download more from the web as and when required from a large pool of choices.
Battery Backup
HTC Wildfire works on a standard lithium ion battery of 1,300 mAh that gives the user a talk time of up to 7 hours and 20 minutes in 2G and up to 8 hours 10 minutes in 3G along with a standby time of up to 480 hours 2G and up to 690 hours in 3G.
Connectivity Offered
HTC Wildfire offers various data connectivity features including GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi and USB port where the GPRS facility allows the user to navigate to the desired location whereas the USB port lets the user connect with computers and laptops via USB cable and exchange data with it.
Compare
HTC Wildfire when compared to HTC Explorer has a better camera strength with the former featuring a 5 megapixels camera as compared to the latter's 3 megapixels. But HTC Wildfire has 384MB RAM as compared to 512MB offered by HTC Explorer.
News Updates
HTC Wildfire released in the market almost three years ago and was received well by the consumers. It is one of those devices that offers good sturdy and reliable features that you find in some of the high profile devices but is still affordable at the same time. Now three years later it does seem weak as compared to other high profile gadgets but can make up for those who are looking for a cheap Android device.
