HTC Explorer Review

HTC Mobiles is a well-known mobile brand across the globe. The company is recognized to make phones, which are smart, intelligent and user friendly. With the launch of HTC Explorer, the firm has proved that it is one of the best in the field and most importantly been appreciated by the consumers as well. In my view, HTC Explorer is certainly an impressive Smartphone that is packed out with ample of interesting and comprehensible features, which is very important to be present in the today's scenario.

By just a glimpse of HTC Explorer, one would surely be impressed and mesmerized. The 3.2 inches of TFT capacitive touchscreen display is pretty awesome and comes with an ideal resolution of 320 x 480 pixels that gives immense pleasure in viewing images and videos on the device. To further add charm and glory to the screen is the HTC Sense 3.5 user interface, which is smooth and easy to use. Under the skin, HTC Explorer is powered with a sturdy processor of Cortex A5 that runs at a speed of 600 MHz and has Android 2.3 gingerbread as operating system. The device has a chipset of Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 MSM7225A and is accompanied with Adreno 200 GPU. The presence of accelerometer and proximity sensors adds more contentment while working on the phone.

HTC Mobiles has taken care of camera segment of HTC Explorer too. The smartphone is fitted with 3.15 megapixels of rear camera with facilities like geo-tagging and face detection. The camera has a capability to capture 480p videos. But the sad part here is that the device lacks secondary camera and LED Flash. This part might cost HTC Mobiles a bit of sales as same category Smartphones does feature secondary camera and LED flash that enhanced the pictures and videos considerably.

Talking about the memory of HTC Explorer, this smartphone has been provided with 90 MB of inbuilt memory storage accompanied with 512 MB of ROM and 512 MB of RAM. The memory could be further amplified up to 32 GB as the company has provided a microSD card slot, where one can insert microSD card to enlarge the memory up to 32 GB. The connectivity features of HTC Explorer are impressive in their own way. The smartphone sports GPRS/EDGE, 3G and A-GPS support along with facility of connecting internet through Wi-Fi. The Bluetooth and microUSB port are present for data transfer. On the whole, HTC Explorer is an absolutely remarkable Android smartphone, if the company would have worked on the secondary camera and LED flash, the phone would have become absolutely flawless.

Overall Review

The HTC Explorer, the Android mobile which was announced in September 2011, is one of the most affordable smartphones in the market and a remarkable smartphone in the global portfolio of HTC devices. HTC Explorer proposes a complex and exciting smartphone experience for users who are experiencing a smartphone for the first time. Smartphones allow users to enjoy well defined graphics, exciting animations, quality music and videos along with social networking pleasure.

The HTC Explorer is a real smartphone as it gives shortcut to save valuable time and make life less complicated. With the HTC Explorer, the user can decide and personalise the home-screen with what should be there and what is not required. An interesting feature of HTC Explorer is that when the phone rings, you can see the latest social status updates, any special occasion (Birthday/ Anniversary) on the screen of the person calling. Never let you miss special dates and updates.

HTC Sensation is an Android 2.3 entry-level smartphone with a modest 600 MHz Qualcomm processor that allows applications to start up instantly and switching between them is also made easier. HTC Explorer is available in three shades, Metallic Black, Active Black and Metallic Navi. HTC has come up with bright idea of few colors that can be customised, the colors are Metallic Blue, Metallic Orange, Metallic White and Metallic Purple. For those who are color specific and want to showoff with something that wont be common, you have a choice.

HTC Explorer is simply a smarter phone for everyone and it represents another clear demonstration of HTC's commitment to expanding the market for more advanced smartphones.

User Interface and UI functionality

With a decent sized 3.2-inch touchscreen and a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, the user get a crystal clear view of applications. With HTC Explorer we can put what’s most important at ease of fingertips. The lockscreen allows access of contacts, mail, camera, and messages in one swipe even when your phone is locked. And to make things more convenient, HTC Explorer offers an intelligent and clean homescreen design that focus on the most often used applications and features. It notifies user for any new email or text message or for any calendar event that has been marked.

HTC Explorer allows the user to go through contacts quickly and make calls easily from either the contacts or call history by simply entering the contact’s first or last name, or may be just the initials. It shows priority list of recent calls.

Multimedia features

HTC Explorer is a good multimedia phone in a small package. It offers the users entertainment like never before. It allows web browsing at ease similar to desktop computer. Websites can be found easily and are very much readable. To make viewing better, the HTC Explorer automatically adjusts the text on the screen so user dont have to scroll left and right to read the text completely. It allows zoom in and dial a phone number on the web page in one easy step, which gives convenient handling experience. And to search for any address, a map opens up immediately and the location can be traced.

Pictures and Video quality

HTC Explorer sport 3 mega pixel color camera with 2048x1536 pixels cannot exactly be compared with 8 mega pixel cameras of many smartphones but it is good enough for modest picture quality. It offers an instant capture camera that work as soon as the button is pressed. The shutter button is also quick. It will never let a great shot slip away.

Internet support

HTC Explorer offer rich Internet experience. It supports 3G with upto 14.4 Mbps download speed and upto 5.76 Mbps upload speed. Navigation through GPRS can be done upto 80 kbps speed. It also support EDGE at 236.8 kbps speed. User can surf the web in style with multi-window browsing, a quick lookup tool for jumping to Wikipedia or YouTube and the latest Flash support for smooth video playback. Active lockscreen in window allows good stuff on your phone, user can check up on your portfolio, view your friend's status, and more. On the Help page, a wide range of tutorial videos and articles, troubleshooting, downloads, and contact information can be found for support centers.

Internal and External Memory

Total storage capacity offered by HTC Explorer is 512 MB which is not very high but good enough for normal applicability. Available internal storage is upto 90 MB and RAM capacity is 512 MB.

Applications and Gaming

HTC Explorer do not have lot of fancy inbuilt games but with Google's Android software many apps can be downloaded. Most of the applications and games from Android market can be downloaded in matter of moments. User can download as many applications as they want.

Battery Backup

With the rechargeable Li-Ion battery with 1230 mAh capacity, HTC Explorer offers a considerable talk time upto 7 h 40 min with 2G and up to 7 h 33 min for 3G. The stand-by time is suggested to be Up to 485 h for 2G and up to 445 h for 3G.

Connectivity Offered

The HTC Explorer offers a good connectivity and work well on both 2G and 3G networks. It supports 2G network bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 Mhz frequencies and 3G network bands HSDPA 900 / 2100 Mhz frequencies.

It also support the HSDPA network at 14.4 Mbps, and HSUPA at 5.76 Mbps. The HTC Explorer allows Bluetooth v3.0 connection with A2DP for wireless stereo headsets, EDR and GPRS for upto 114 kbps and EDGE Up to 560 kbps.

Compare

Motorola Fire XT is one of the touchscreen smartphone in the market which is a strong competitor to HTC Explorer launched in similar price range. The features of MOTO are also good . Both the devices run on Android OS. So made an attempt to compare the difference between both the gadgets based on the specifications. HTC Explorer has a slightly bigger and brighter screen whereas Motorola Fire XT comes with higher 800 Mhz processor. Camera features like LED flash and secondary camera are not available in Motorola Fire XT which are there in Motorola Fire XT along with more internal storage.
