Blackberry Playbook Review
Overall Review
Blackberry has not been successful with most devices in the recent times but one device that has grabbed the attention of many is its tablet Blackberry Playbook. The device has even outsold Apple's iPad which is a feat in itself. The device has the dimensions 194mm x 130mm x 10mm and weighs 425 grams. Its 7 inch TFT capacitive touch screen is slightly smaller than Apple's iPad whereas the pixel density offered by it is also not great with only 170ppi. Available with three variations in terms of memory with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, the device comes backed by 1GB RAM that makes sure that the user can access the resources of the system at a faster pace. The RAM though is pretty decent, another 1GB would not have hurt since a 2GB RAM is even common in some of the high profile smartphones. The device also offers lots of multimedia features including a music player and a video player that allows the user to access all the popular songs and videos that the entertainment world has to offer. The Internet capability is well looked after with Wi-Fi along with the dual band capability.
The user can access the web with comfort even in remote location and performs better than some of the other tablets. The device also has the bluetooth facility along with the USB port that rounds up the data connectivity features. The camera department is actually better than a lot of the other tablets with the primary camera offering a strength of 5 megapixels whereas the secondary camera working at 3 megapixels. The quality of the pictures produced is also pretty decent especially that of the primary camera. The Blackberry Tablet operating system is the main architect in the software department while the hardware department is looked after by Dual-core 1GHz Cortex-A9 processor and the TI OMAP 4430 chipset. The device is available in the color of Black and is powered by the standard lithium polymer battery of 5,300 mAh which allows the user to operate on the device for a longer duration than other tablets. Other significant features offered by the device includes a Micro HDMI port, a document viewer etc.
User Interface and UI functionality
Blackberry Playbook has a 7 inch TFT capacitive touch screen that gives a resolution of 600 by 1024 pixels along with 16 million colors and works at a pixel density of 170ppi. The screen can be interacted with through the multi touch technology.
Multimedia features
Blackberry Playbook has loads of multimedia features including a music player and a video player that allows the user to access the best of what the entertainment world has to offer. The music can be heard in the formats - MP3, WMA and AAC+ through the loudspeakers or through the earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5mm jack. The video player is compatible with the formats - DivX, WMV, XviD and 3gp.
Pictures and Video quality
Blackberry Playbook has a very formidable 5 megapixels camera that allows the user to click pictures at a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels and features the auto focus facility that allows the user to click pictures with precision even when the hands of the user are shaky and not steady. Videos can also be shot at 1080 pixels whereas the secondary camera of 3 megapixels allows the user to web chat or make video calls over the web.
Internet support
Blackberry Playbook comes backed by the Wi-Fi facility that allows the user to connect with the web and download desired. The user can also visit the desired web sites including Facebook and Twitter.
Internal and External Memory
Blackberry Playbook comes in three variations in terms of internal memory with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The user can then store loads of data including music files, games, images and videos. There is no microSD card slot so the external memory cannot be expanded any further.
Applications and Gaming
Blackberry Playbook has loads of games and apps that come preinstalled in the device and makes sure that the user stays entertained and engaged. The user can download more such apps and games from the web as and when required.

Blackberry Playbook comes powered by the standard lithium polymer battery of 5,300 mAh that gives the user up to 10 hours of non-stop multimedia exposure without the device running out of power in the middle.
Connectivity Offered
Blackberry Playbook offers lots of data connectivity features including a HDMI port along with a USB port that allows the user to connect other gadgets to the devicevia USB cable including a cell phone or a pen drive. There is also the Wi-Fi facility that allows the user to connect with the web and download data including music files, games, images and videos. The Wi-Fi is dual Band whereas there is also the Bluetooth facility that allows the user to connect with other devices and that too wirelessly so as to exchange data.
Compare
Blackberry Playbook when compared to Apple iPad 2 has a smaller screen with the former featuring a 7 inch display while the latter a 9.7 inch. Both the device have a 1GHz dual core processor but the Apple iPad comes powered by the Apple A5 operating system while the Blackberry playbook works with Blackberry tablet operating system. Apple iPad has a VGA front camera but the Blackeberry Playbook has a 5 megapixels front camera. Similarly there is a stark difference in their secondary camera's with BlackBerry Playbook featuring a 3 megapixel rare camera. Both the devices are available in three versions including 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Data connectivity features are more or less similar with HDMI port and access to Wi-Fi. Blackberry Playbook is much cheaper than Apple's iPad and although the former does not offer all the features that the Apple iPad does, it offers most. So the device is worth preferring over iPad.

Blackberry Playbook released in the year 2011 and had considerable success once the price was slashed and the effect of it was so powerful that the device out sold the Apple iPad. The tablet is probably the only success that the company has had in the recent times and with the upcoming BlackBerry Z10, the company would be hoping that their luck would change soon.
