Asus Fonepad Note 6 Review
The genre of phablet has caught like wild fire with the concept of a large sized display popularized by Samsung been capitalized by every smartphone manufacturing company. The acceptable size for a phablet is also being stretched as the line between a tablet and a phablet has become blurred. Asus is another company that has begun cashing in on the appeal of a massive sized smartphone and with Asus Fonepad Note 6, the company wishes to achieve the same. This phablet features a 6-inch display that is backed by a marvelous pixel density of 367ppi. The device as a whole looks phenomenal and actually better than the Samsung Galaxy Note series. With clean edges and nicely finished design, Asus Fonepad Note 6 is sleek and elegant that has a glossy super IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. A healthy resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels provides accurate colors.
The phablet is 10.3mm thick and has a length of 164.8mm, while it is 88.8mm wide. Stylus pen is one feature that has been revived from the dead for it was once thought to be out of trend. But the popularity of stylus pen induced by Samsung Galaxy Note series has forced companies like Sony and now Asus, to deploy it in their gadgets as well. The application of it is not as vivid and wide as in Note 2. Asus Fonepad Note 6 sports two versions with regard to the internal memory namely, 16GB and 32GB. Both the variants are strong and should provide enough space for a large data collection that may include songs, games, images, and videos. The 64GB memory card slot is a luxury that is common to both the versions.
RAM is quite impressive with 2GB storage, which is as good as any other device in the market. It should complement the dual core processor, provide faster resource accessing speed, and thus, be better at multitasking. Internet is a vital ingredient in any Android gadget and since the version incorporated in the device is the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2, it becomes all the more important. Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hot spot, dual band, and Wi-Fi direct are some of the prolific features that add value to the internal means to access the web that also include features like GPRS, EDGE, and HTML5 browser. NFC, Bluetooth, and USB can be used for exchange of things like songs, games, images, and videos. An 8-megapixel camera is always going to be adequate with a phenomenal resolution of 3264 by 2448 pixels. Auto focus and geo-tagging are side features for assistance.
The videos can be shot at 1080 pixels resolution. A 1.2-megapixel secondary camera is always going to be fruitful for those who are interested in web calls or getting some face time over the web. There are two colors in which the phablet is available including Black and White and both look equally good. The 3200mAh standard lithium-ion battery is vigorous enough to give away a big talk time of up to 23 hours in 3G.
User Interface and UI functionality
Asus Fonepad Note 6 comes with a IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen of 6 inches aided by a pixel density of 367ppi and resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. The display has 16 million color resolutions as its multitouch screen allows the use of up to 10 fingers for interaction. With accelerometer sensor, proximity sensor, and compass sensor, the device becomes a great medium to support various motion sensor games like F1 Race and Moto GP.
Asus Fonepad Note 6 garners access to tons of songs that can be stored as a part of its customized playlist with the help of the music player. The embedded video player provides the same facility enabling the users to play videos of the desired nature in the formats of MP4, H.264, and H.263. Music player is supported by the formats of MP3, WAV, WMA, and AAC. Earphones and loudspeakers are two ways to listen to music. There is no FM radio in the device.
Pictures and Video quality
Asus Fonepad Note 6 comes with a hefty 8-megapixel primary camera with a burly resolution of 3264 by 2448 pixels that produce befitting results. Auto focus is pretty good with the phablet allowing the user to target objects automatically. Geo-tagging feature is available too but would need the help of internet to come into use. Video shooting is done at 1080 pixels. Secondary camera of 1.2-megapixel is a source for getting some face time and making calls online.
Asus Fonepad Note 6 brings forth lots of internet features that are new and commanding in their use. Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot along with Wi-Fi direct and dual band are part of the WLAN facility. Hot spot is useful when the user wants to make the device a central hub for internet so that lots of other compatible device can access the web through it.
Internal and External Memory
Asus Fonepad Note 6 has 16GB or 32GB of internal memory depending on the type of phablet chosen by the user. No matter which version is chosen, a microSD card slot with a gigantic limit of 64GB of external memory is provided for both the variants thus ensuring tons of data to be stored including songs, games, images, and videos without pondering over the memory space running out. RAM is also brawny with 2GB assuring smooth running of the phablet at a fast pace.
Applications and Gaming
Asus Fonepad Note 6 is gamers’ delight to say the least. There is absolutely nothing to complain about the phablet from the perspective of games including a 6-inch display, which is fast and accurate in functionality, Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system, dual core processor and a 2GB RAM are the features that help the user to enjoy games and applications.
Asus Fonepad Note 6 flaunts a 3200mAh standard lithium-ion battery that produces an impressive talk time of up to 23 hours and that too in 3G. The multimedia usage time is lengthy too but web surfing can eat into the battery relatively quicker than other activities.
USB port and Bluetooth are the usual features but NFC capability is what is going to please the users by providing lightening fast data exchange with compatible gadgets. Rest of the data connectivity features have already been discussed including Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hot spot, dual band, and Wi-Fi direct. In 2G mode, Asus Fonepad Note 6 operates at GSM frequencies of 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 whereas in 3G, the device operates at frequencies of 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100.
Asus Fonepad Note 6 when compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a bigger screen size with 6 inches for the former and 5.7 inches for the latter. The pixel density of the latter is much higher than that of the former. Both the gadgets come with a stylus pen but Samsung Galaxy Note 3 puts it to much better use. Primary Camera is of 13 megapixels with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 whereas the same is 8 megapixels with Asus Fonepad Note 6. The latter has a 1.2 megapixels secondary camera, which is weaker as compared to Note 3's 2 megapixels secondary camera. Samsung Galaxy Note3 has 3GB of RAM that is higher than 2GB offered by Asus Fonepad Note 6. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has an octa core processor, which is eight times the dual core processor offered by Asus Fonepad Note 6. Battery strength is the same for both the phablets with 3200mAh standard lithium-ion power backup.
