Overall Review
Apple Inc. has always done only subtle updates in their devices and the iPhone 4S 16GB is no exception. Apple iPhone 4 was a real step-forward from its predecessor but iPhone 4S is more like the iPhone 3GS in this aspect. We do not mean that the device is less wondrous than other Apple devices. In fact, it is fantastic and one of the best that has come out of the kitty of Apple. Apple has packaged the Apple iPhone 4S 16GB in such a way that it can win hearts of the beginners and the expert smartphone users alike. iPhone 4S has everything from an upgraded camera, new processor to a fun voice recognition feature. It manages to be desirable enough for those who wish to update their smartphones.
We immensely and open heartedly admire the Retina Display technology of iPhone 4S and tout it as close to the best. The camera is genuinely the best alternative to a point and shoot one. The upgraded processor is a real winner with more and more heavy-graphic apps and games flooding the market. Its “Siri” (voice recognition tool) is the most unique tool that one gets with this high class device and will keep all the tech savvies occupied.
There are also a bit of issues with Apple iPhone latest version IPhone 4S 16GB. The price is too high and way in excess with its upfront cost. Samsung and HTC devices can be bought off without that extra cost. It also requires some sort of amendments in its contacts list and social networking integration.
In the end, it is still fair enough to say that Apple iPhone 4S 16GB is one of the best phones especially for those who want to update to iOS 5. Plus, it has an excellent camera, great web browser and a quality screen.
User Interface and UI functionality
Apple iPhone 4S 16GB has a dual-band aerial design. On the top there is power/lock button, 3.5 mm headset jack and mic for noise cancellation. The right side holds the microSD SIM card slot. The bottom just holds the dual speakers and Apple connectors. The left side has rounded volume keys and slightly raised silencer switch.
The new user-interface of iPhone 4S uses an Android-like drop down notifications menu, just requires a double tap on the Home button for opening the camera and many other new innovations. All the menu options can be accessed in similar fashion and all that has become really easy over iPhone 4S.
Dual-core A5 chip processor has really made the device snappier and very cool to use by saving a lot of battery power. It is evident that the display of the iPhone 4S 16GB is same as iPhone 4. It also sports a 16M colors 3.5" LED backlit touch-screen display with 326ppi resolution, 800:1 contrast ratio, and uses the Retina Display technology.
Multimedia features
The Apple iPhone 4S 16GB can access iTunes via iCloud and that automatically downloads one’s favorite music, videos, and TV shows. One can also use the iTune Match app that imports music or videos from a CD to the iPhone. The phone has a universal 3.5mm AV connector and stereo speaker support.
The device also has an 8MP camera at its disposal which is way ahead of the predecessor’s camera. The front camera is good enough for quick self-portraits.
Apple hasn't just enhanced the number of pixels but has used a new sensor design that has larger capacity pixels so that they receive more light and generate a stronger signal for capturing an attractive snap. There’s also a new lens with an aperture of f/2.4 to allow faster shutter speeds in dark. The flash of the camera is weak but useful enough for illuminating very dark surroundings. A tap of the screen is all that is required to set the focus point. Apple hasn't given the camera a touch-shutter facility. Although there is no optical zoom facility, the iPhone 4S camera allows users to zoom digitally with use of pinch to zoom option on the touch-screen.
The Apple IPhone 4S 16GB camera has damn simple controls, very easy to use, and all automatic. There are sensitivity settings, white balance and exposure and, of course, extra functionality can be added via apps. On-screen icons provide access to the secondary camera, grid display, flash, and HDR options. The macro mode is automatically enabled and quickly manages to take close-up pictures.
The iPhone 4S camera is available as soon as the lock screen is swiped open or with a double tap of the Home Button.
Pictures and Video quality
The iPhone 4S camera is very easy to use and is highly responsive and with the HDR shooting mode turned on, its speed is simply mind blowing.
The iPhone selects ISO 80 (a low setting) that ensures capturing of plenty of detail. At good viewing sizes, thus, most of the iPhone 4S camera images look sharp and amply detailed. Colors are generally good, though the white balance can shift from one shot to the next. Some colors look a bit restrained on the screen at the point of capture.
With scenes having lots of contrast, the HDR facility creates three different versions and merges them into one thereby creating more detailed image. It can sometimes over-boost the colors and strong light and motion can also result in ghosting.
The iPhone 4S does 1080p full HD video recording to let users enjoy the videos across their big screen TV in full glory. It has also included anti-shake functionality to stabilize videos. The same backlight illumination sensor has been added to the video mode as well, making it easy to get good quality shots in low light. The video editing tools can trim shot videos.
Internet support
Apple iPhone 4S 16GB has the Safari Internet browser with all new iOS 5 upgradations. The main feature of the iPhone 4S browser is the fact that it's fast, and able to handle any web page in seconds over Wi-Fi or 3G.
Apple has also introduced Reader to the Safari browser. Despite the familiar lack of flash video and just HTML5 video support built into the iOS browser, iPhone 4S Internet performance is sub-standard compared to its Android counterparts.

The Apple iPhone 4S 16GB runs on 3G EV-DO Rev. A network, which promises speeds of 600-1,400Kbps and average upload speeds of 500-800Kbps. It has a faster HSDPA 14.4 network that's capable of reaching theoretical speeds of 14.4Mbps down, 5.8Mbps up on AT&T. At present, Apple's device isn't classified as HSPA+.
The 4S also offers an upgraded Bluetooth version 4.0 that uses less power and will enable the iPhone to connect to battery-operated devices like fitness machines at the gym.
The iCloud service that debuted with iOS 5 serves to automatically keep all the important stuff backed up like mails, notes, reminders, bookmarks, and photos. For this, Apple offers up to 5GB of online storage that quickly runs down. Users must use it judiciously and upload only that stuff that is of utmost use so that it does not get lost in case of device breakdown or loss. Once uploaded, there's no way to delete this data. This backing up happens automatically and wirelessly as and when the phone is charged, locked, and connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Apple iPhone 4S 16GB is a class apart. While it has a slick proprietary iOS 5, there’s also Siri voice recognition inside it to woo buyers. The quality Retina Display screen, solid feel, out-of-the-box processor, and the superb camera makes it even more desirable. But people would be exploring other at-par options also.
HTC HD2 would be a good bet for those people as this smartphone boasts of a reasonable price and cool features too. It has a responsive touchscreen, fast processor, decent media properties, options, dual LED flash equipped camera and superb HTC Sense integration into Windows Mobile operating system.
