The screen also comes powered with the IPS technology along with the LED back-lit glossy widescreen. The screen gives a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels at a pixel density of 132 ppi. As far as the dimensions of the device is concerned, the Apple iPad 2 has a height of 9.5 inches, a width of 7.31 inches and a depth of 0.34 inches. The device weighs 601 grams and has a storage capacity of 64 GB that allows the user to store4 large amount of data. The device also comes loaded with tons of multimedia features like the music player that lets the user listen to his/her favourite musical tracks. The 64 GB of internal storage (not expandable) makes sure that you have enough memory to store all your favorite music, videos, images and install more Apps than you will possibly ever need whilst 512 MB of RAM enables you to have a lag-free experience while browsing through all your stuff and the Internet. The front and back camera make their way to iPad 2 (finally!), with back camera providing 720p video recording at 30 fps. The Wi-Fi 802.11 and Bluetooth 2.1 provide wide connectivity options. As a 3G enabled tab, it provides fast brosing spped. To sum it up, iPad 2 does not really leap into the super tech future but with the upgraded hardware and improved aesthetics it is an absolute stunner and technological marvel of its times.

User Interface and UI functionality

The Apple iPad 2 64GB WiFi and 3G, a 241mm long, 186mm wide and 8.6mm thick tab, is just a tad shorter than its predecessor, the iPad, and thinner than iPhone4. But you feel the difference as soon as the device comes into your hands. Its ergonomic design and curved edges make it easier to hold. The lightweight iPad2 weights 680gms which is around 80gms lighter than the original iPad. The front panel, covered in glass, houses a 9.7 inch LED backlit Multi-touch display with a resolution of 1024-by-768 framed in either glossy white or glossy black lining. In line with Apple trademark, the touchscreen is super smooth and delight to use. Just above the screen you will notice a front facing VGA camera, an improvement over the original iPad, which can be used for Facetime while the Home button, in a standard fashion these days, sits just beneath the screen. The back panel has a brushed aluminum finish and the attention grabber here, apart from the prominent Apple logo which is placed in the center, is a 0.7 Megapixel camera on the top left. The iPad 2 does not have many hardware controls – at the top there is sleep/wake key, on the right a volume rocker and, of course, in the front a Home button. Just above the volume controls, there is a new button which can be customized to function as a screen rotation lock or audio mute. It also has a 3.5mm audio jack on top and a 30 pin connector and integrated speakers at bottom.

Apple’s smart covers with built-in magnet can be used to give a livelier look to iPad2, if you are fond of bright colored phones.

Multimedia features

We have always loved Apple for the quality of audio their devices provide, haven’t we? The iPad 2 does not deviate from this. The audio quality is a perfect 10 with its output being notably louder and there is hardly any degradation when the headphones are plugged in. It comes loaded with the iPod audio player which provides a split screen interface making best use of the large screen. Organizing the library is as easy as it has been on any Apple device. There is also an option to apply equalizer. These features combined with outstanding audio quality provide a promising music experience. For downloading music content, as usual, you are stuck with iTunes. You may not be fond of it, but that’s one thing you voluntarily sign up for whenever you purchase any ‘iGadget’.

The still camera is a real bummer that can take only 960X760 pixels images, making the resolution on captured shots lower than 1024X768 pixels resolution of the screen itself. As a result, the still shots lack details and look grainy1. The camera interface is clean and easy to use, though it does not provide much control over the over the photos: no white balance setting or scene selection.

There is nothing special about the front facing VGA camera, which can capture 0.3 MP stills (nearly unusable). In FaceTime app, the video quality is bearable though you may want to sit in a very well lit room while using FaceTime.

Internet support

Browsing the web on Apple iPad 2 64GB WiFi and 3G enabled tablet is a really smooth experience. The pages load quickly, thanks to the dual-core processor, while fluid touch controls and gesture support like pinch zoom works like a charm. The safari browser supports multiple tabs, auto fill and password manager.

The only problem in this otherwise excellent web experience is lack Flash support. Sites with heavy use of Flash fail to load and the Flash videos cannot be played.

This version of iPad 2 comes with 64GB inbuilt memory and there are no expansion slots to plug in a memory card incase you run out of memory (which is highly unlikely). The device also has 512 MB of RAM which is enough to provide a super smooth experience.
