Acer Liquid e Review

The Acer Liquid E has a fancy name but its design isn’t that great. This one is dressed in a firm, glossy black plastic chassis and holds a 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen. We do see a bit of flare in this phone as a couple of nice and different widgets are used (e.g., Rolodex-style widget) by the user-interface of Acer Liquid E but mostly it is all about basic Acer UI with a basic Android operating system version 2.1.

Gen-next Acer Liquid E has a decent hardware though. Under its fancy shell, the Acer Liquid E houses tough business oriented hardware. It runs a Qualcomm processor which is probably underrated, being clocked just at 768 MHz. This is couple with 512MB RAM and thus Liquid E is not able to manage to be a high-end smartphone. On the brighter side, the device comes loaded with a 8 GB microSD card and can accept memory cards up to 32GB capacity. There's also HSDPA 3G network connection rated at 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA rated at 2 Mbps download speed, respectively. Additionally, there's also Wi-Fi with support for only 802.11b/g connections and not wireless N. Its Wi-Fi is efficient as its operations and working is 10 times faster. Then there is A-GPS chipset and software for using Google Maps besides Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP for connecting to wireless stereo headsets.

Acer Liquid E delivers dynamic multimedia functionality. Liquid E shoots and record video in HD at 720p (30fps) via the packed in 5-megapixels camera. The camera does not have a flash which clearly suggests that Acer intends it for basic use. The results as in the stills clicked with Liquid E’s camera have vibrant colours. However, the autofocus is such that it requires the user to take extra caution when lining up shots. Acer Liquid E has unique software and nicely designed custom media player. The software referred to as “Neoplayer” is actually an app that organizes media and also show off album art and photos clicked by the phone’s camera.

We aren’t hugely impressed by the touchscreen, camera performance and battery backup of the Acer Liquid E Android smartphone. The processing abilities and embedded hardware of Acer Liquid E is good enough even though the phone handles Android and its basic suite of tools only. It is hard to recommend this device when many excellent and relatively cheap Androids are already doing rounds in the market.
