Apple iPhones and iPads in India 2013
Apple iPhones and iPads come from the stable Apple Inc., or as was earlier known as Apple Computer Inc, a multinational company, manufactures consumer electronics, commercial servers, and software. The year 1976 saw the release of Apple I computers, and kept into the same business for almost the next 2 decades, which includes Apple II, Macintosh, and Power Mac. Even after manufacturing out-of-the-box computers that belonged to the latest generation, the company still suffered some loss during 1990s. With the comeback of Steve Jobs, who along with his workforce, the company launched iPod in the year 2001. It was with iPod with which Apple gained its lost market, thus established once again as the market leader as far as consumer electronics market was concerned. Coming a long way, making its base strong with iPhone, iPod Touch, and the most recent iPad, Apple made itself the leader in the industry. All its iOS based products, of date, are the highest earning of all products.
iPhone Hardware:
Screen:
All the models have been given a 9 cm wide screen, with liquid crystal display along with scratch resistant glass. The earlier of iPhones, which we can call the first generation iPhones, had 320 X 480 of resolution while the latest iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S come with even better resolution of 640 X 326. All the iPhone models hardly have any hardware user interface, other than the basic four or five tabs. Other than iPhone 4, which works for all four sensors, all iPhones respond to three sensors. Proximity sensor, to deactivate display and touchscreen as per the sensed by the phone; Accelerometer, which is 3-axis, to sense the orientation and thus change the screen as and when sensed the requirement. In addition to these, iPhone 4 comes with gyroscopic sensor, which enhances its perception of movement.
Par all this, for the first generation iPhones, which were sensed to be falling behind, an upgradation was brought in the software in 2008, which let those phones use WiFi network locations trilateration, even though it lacked GPS hardware.
Audio and Output:
iPhones come facilitated with speaker and loudcover, dock connector, and microphone visible on the outside. iPhone 4 also has additional microphone; this features enables noise cancellation. A few of the specially designed third party headsets also have control button and microphone. The latest of such headsets provide volume control too. In the latest of models, wireless earpieces and headphone features is also available with in-built bluetooth, 2.x+EDR, backed by HSP profile. When the 3.0 update was brought, stereo audio was added to the phones. What these iPhones lack is OBEX file transfer protocol.
Battery
Come with a strong support from internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery. However, unlike any other phone, the battery in any of iPhones cannot be replaced by the user. The batteries come with an ability to be charged by connecting to a computer. What puts a smile across the user’s face is the company’s offer to change the phone in case the battery fails or dies prematurely or malfunctions.
Camera
In-built in fixed focus 2.0 megapixel camera has been gifted to iPhone and iPhone 3G. However, it does not support zoom, autofocus or flash, video recording in iPhones, though iPhone 3G has video recording through a third party app, which can be downloaded from App Store.
Then iPhone 3GS was brought out with 3.2 megapixel camera; this one was brought out by OmniVision, nad had all those features which the earlier versions lacked. Autofocus, auto macro, and auto white balance. A VGA camera of resolution of 640 X 480 includes video at 30 frames per second. iPhone 4 was launched with a camera of 5.0 megapixel, which is LED flash enabled and can captures pictures in lowest of light conditions. High dynamic range photography was first brought to iPhones in iPhone 4., which also has a second camera that clicks VGA images and records SD videos too. iPhone 4S, which has a 8 megapixels camera, has the capacity to record 1080p videos. The best about this camera is gyroscope sensor, which can very comfortably hold the phone stablized when recording videos.
Storage
The first few iPhones were launched with 4 GB or 8GB storage. However, soon the 4 GB models were discontinued and another model was brought up with 16 GB storage. iPhone 3G came with 8 and 16 GB, while iPhone 3GS was brought in with two variants, 16 GB and 32 GB, all of which were discontinued; however, the 8 GB model is still doing well in the market. iPhone 4 was brought in 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB variants.
iPad Hardware:
Screen and input
The first two generations of iPad came with a touch screen pixel of 1024 X 768, measuring 197 X 148 mm, fingerprint and scratch free glass, and liquid crystal display. Ambient light sensors, which can automatically adjust brightness on the screen. In-built applications in these tablets support screen rotation in all directions, in fact upside down rotation is also possible in this phone. iPad has evolved with every operating system up-gradation, iOS 4.2 and iOS 4.3 have both brought changes.
The first iPad came with no camera, iPad 2 was launched with camera on the front, though VGA, rear end of the tablet has 720p camera, the quality of both such that cannot be boasted about. Still images clicking camera, at as low as 0.3 megapixels and 30 frame per second video. Still images of 5X digital zoom can be clicked by the rear camera.
Connectivity
iPad uses WiFi networking trilateration. iPad 3G is A-GPS enabled, and also comes with a headphone jack and dock connector; however no Ethernet and USB port. In lieu of this, iPads come with Apple Camera Connection Kit accessory, thus two dock connector adapters to transfer via USB and SD memory cards.
The first iPad was brought with speakers that used push sound via small sealed channels. iPad 2 now has been brought with speakers placed behind a single grill. Wireless headphones and keyboards can be used with the in-built bluetooth 2.1 + EDR interface, Though, iOS Bluetooth does not allow files transferring. A VGA 1024 X 768 video recording facility is also available. An external display or TV can also be connected.
Power and Battery
Taiwan made internal rechargeable lithium ion polymer batteries have been used in iPads. These batteries can be charged by the 10 watt USB power adaptor and USB cord with USB connector. As per claims, one month on standby, 10 hours of video, and 140 hours of audio playback is what the battery of both generation of tablets provide. Like iPhones, batteries of iPads are also not user replaceable.
Memory and SIM
iPad was launched with 16, 32 and 64 GB of internal memories, without any memory expansion option. To transfer photos and videos, Apple also has camera connection kit along with an SD card dealer. New Apple iPad 3G is compatible with any GSM carrier.
Software of iPhone
Apple has its own operating system, iOS, which earlier was known as iPhone operating system. It not only supports the current bundled applications and future ones too, it also supports a few third party developers. Apple keeps updating iOS through iTunes. However, new updates for iOS necessitates newer iOS also, like, updated iOS 3 requires iTune 8.2
Phone:
With an iPhone, audio conferencing, call merging, call holding, caller id, etc are easily possible along with other iPhone functions. However, versions other than the fourth generation iPhones, since have only one camera, do not allow video calling or conferencing. It was only in iPhone 4 that both front and back camera were provided, and thus video calling also was possible. One special feature to be surely mentioned is Voice control; the user just has to say the name or the number and, if already in contact list, iPhone will dial the number.
Multimedia
Quite similar to iPod or Symbian phones, music is well provided with in iPhones. iPhone lets its users watch TV shows and also supports digital video. Users can as well purchase or download iTune songs. Uploading, viewing and emailing, zooming in or out clicked images have become easier with iPhones.
Internet
Internet can be easily accessed on iPhone if connected to local WiFi, GSM, EDGE networks. iPhone 3G support UMTs and 3.6 HSDPA, iPhone 4S works on HSUPA networks, iPhone 3GS and iPhone have systems supporting HSDPA 7.2 also. iPhone 3GS downloads at a 7.3 Mbit/s. iPhone has an in-built maps application, which allows viewing Google Maps in all the three forms of map, satellite and hybrid. Directions, traffic, etc. can as well be opted for. YouTube videos, stock information, simple weather information all are available justa tap away.
